NARS Pure Matte lipstick Bangkok: review and swatches

NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Bangkok
I bought NARS Pure Matte lipstick in Bangkok from www.kissandmakeupny.com/  because I fell in love with the gorgeous petal pink colour on Christina Hendricks. Yes, I am that impressionable.

Colour:
On me Bangkok is a nude with petal pink tones, which leans a little cool. It definitely lighter on me than it appears on Christina Hendricks. Note: the digital swatch on the NARS website is a medium beige colour, which is completely wrong.

Texture:
When Pure Matte was released, it was marketed as a great innovation in the matte texture.

“A super-rich, super-pampering, super-sexy lipstick in six sumptuous shades. Pure drama”.
“Glides on effortlessly, without drag or resistance”.
“Defying traditional long-wearing lipsticks, Pure Matte will not dry out lips”
“Wild Mango Butter’s advanced moisturizing properties work to repair lips from dryness and scaling, leaving lips supple and soft”

I found that Bangkok was very drying on my lips (but as you know, my lips are picky) and applied a little chalky. My lips needed to be exfoliated and thoroughly moisturised beforehand to wear this, otherwise I found that it would emphasize lip lines significantly.
Pigmentation is sheer to medium for Bangkok, so for pigmented lips I would recommend neutralising your natural lip colour with a little bit of concealor.

Wear time is okay, not fabulous- about 2 hours.

Overall thoughts:
I really do love the colour, especially paired with a smokey eye, but the texture leaves me unimpressed. If only it had the texture of my other mattes like NARS Heat Wave, Lipstick Queen Red Sinner, or Lancome Color Design Matte Corset…
