Is there anything that Tom Ford can’t do? Within a year of his critically acclaimed and so-stylish-it-hurts feature film ‘A Single Man’, Mr Ford launches his line of lipsticks that would rival the luxury and cult status of Chanel and Guerlain lip products.
I was fortunate enough to be given a chance to review two of the twelve lipsticks from the Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Colour range.
Everything about the Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Colors reminds you that you are holding a luxury item. The weight of the lipstick in your palm, the stylish gold and ivory, the sophisticated and satisfying ‘click’ when you replace the cap, and of course the TF embossed onto the lipstick itself.
Bruised Plum- A cool toned plum- merlot colour. The colour deepens significantly with a second layer.
Cherry Lush- Cool toned red which leans towards fuschia. I’ve noticed that with one layer the colour appears more fuschia, and with the second layer it warms up a little, becoming more of a cool toned red.
For swatches and rest of the review, keep reading after the jump!
Both lipsticks have vibrant, saturated colour, and about 80% opacity on the first swipe.
The wear time is impressive for these lippies- I’ll easily get 5-6 hrs out of it (this is probably the longest I get out of any lipstick), and the colour clings on even after a meal
note: like many long wearing lip products these lipstick stain like crazy, and I have noticed the stain after cleansing my face in the shower, and even the morning after! Thankfully, the colour of both Bruised Plum and Cherry Lush are absolutely beautiful as a stain.
Both Bruised Plum and Cherry Lush have a satin finish, with a subtle glossiness. They apply like silk on my dry lips and wear comfortably for hours without drying.
In my opinion, dark vampy lipstick colours really test the formulation of the lipstick- if the formulation isn’t good, you end up with really unattractive lip lines and obvious patches of uneven wear after a little while. Tom Ford Bruised Plum is worth every cent for how beautifully it wears, even hours later.
To provide some colour context, I swatched Tom Ford ‘Bruised Plum’ next to my other favourite dark lipstick- Chanel Rouge Coco ‘Rouge Noir’; and I swatched Tom Ford ‘Cherry Lush’ next to a true red – Chanel Rouge Coco ‘Gabrielle’
I can see this becoming another unmanageable addiction- I really want to get my paws on the Tom Ford Private Blend Lipstick in ‘Smoke Red’ and ‘True Coral’, and I am counting down the days until the new Tom Ford Beauty range is launched!
Price- AU$65 in Australia, US$45 in the US.
Availability- In Australia, Tom Ford lipstick is only available at the Tom Ford counter at selected David Jones; US readers can find Tom Ford lipstick at selected Saks Fifth Ave, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodmans stores.
