From the Estee Lauder press release-
The Pure Color Modern Mercury Collection is a limited edition, texturally graphic collection inspired by modern, avant-garde architecture.
Molten metallic eyes become the focus with daring eye shadow duos to define and illuminate the eyes on a soft shimmering canvas and are complemented by edgy matte lips of rich crimson reds, brazen beiges and fierce fuchsias. A twisted shade of green on the nails completes the seductive look.
price: $30(US)/$58(AUS) Pure Color Eyeshadow Duo, $21 (US) $42 (AUS) for the Pure Color Liquid Eyeliner

I am a long time lover of metallics in eye makeup, so when I saw the press release images of the gorgeous Constance Jablonski wearing this sultry iridescent silver eye created by Tom Pecheux I was very excited indeed. I think that Tom Pecheux has done amazing things at Estee Lauder since joining the brand as Creative Makeup Director- he’s injected a new freshness and edginess to the brand.
I was sent two products in the Modern Mercury collection to review- the Pure Colour Eye shadow Duo in Modern Mercury and the Pure Colour Liquid Eyeliner in Graphite.
Colour
The right side of the duo is a beautiful metallic mid-tone grey with soft silver shimmer, and my favourite out of the two. You can’t really tell from the swatch, but on the lids it has gorgeous depth and sophistication. First layer is sheer, two layers is perfection.
Layered on top of a black base (I’ve swatched it on top of MAC Blackground Paint Pot under the Graphite Eye liner section of the review), it becomes an intense metallic gunmetal.
The left side of the duo is a shimmery iridescent white with cool undertones. It goes on very sheer and I’ve used about 3 layers in the swatch below.

Texture
The metallic grey on the right side has a lovely buttery smooth texture. The shimmer in it is very fine and not at all gritty. Although you can use this wet, I prefer to use this dry.
The shimmery white I found to be a little chalky. After experimenting with it a little I think the best way to use this is wet- it applies so much smoother and has more pigmentation that way.
Performance
The metallic grey shadow performs very well on my oily lids (on top of an eye shadow primer, I use UDPP) with no creasing and exceptionally good wear time. I’m wearing it today, and after an intense cardio session at the gym today I noticed that it hardly faded!
The shimmery white, however, doesn’t last very long and I did notice a bit of glitter migration at the end of the day.
Packaging:
Housed in embossed gold casing, it looks and feels very luxe. It wins extra points for having a mirror too.

Estee Lauder Graphite Pure Color Liquid Eyeliner from Modern Mercury Collection
Keep reading after the jump!
Graphite is a dark metallic gunmetal shot through with silver microshimmer. I’ve never been this excited about an eyeliner before, it really is something special.
It is water resistant and lasts all day and night on my oily lids.
It comes with sort of a sharpened tip rubber/sponge applicator, which is surprisingly easy to use. You can get a very thin precise line, or a thicker line depending on the angle and pressure you use and it’s great for getting the liner in between your lashes.

A quick FOTD with Modern Mercury Eyeshadow Duo and Graphite Liquid Liner…
I’ve tried to keep the eye makeup as simple as possible and use mostly the products in the review. You can easily create a sultry smokey eye with the addition of a dark eyeshadow in the outer V, or adding a darker colour under the bottom lashline.
