Hello beautiful people!
I’ve been seriously crushing on the OCC Lip Tars lately. They are truly extraordinary, and completely different to any other lip product I have come across.
One of the main reasons why I love the OCC Lip Tars so much, and why they are so popular amongst makeup artists, is the fact that they are designed to be mixed to create custom lip colours. This is not the first time I’ve tried to create a custom lip colour from Lip Tars, but it’s the first time I’ve been able to bottle my mixes in a container that travels well without leaking.
First things first- here is my OCC Lip Tar collection:

I have not included lip swatches of Melange, Vintage, or Grandma Lip Tars as I have reviewed and swatched them in the past. Melange lip tar swatched here, Vintage and Grandma Lip Tars swatched here.
I was really excited about giving Lip Tar mixing another shot, because when I was browsing www.makeupandglow.com.au I came across these empty dropper bottles which were perfect for holding custom Lip Tar mixes. They’re the right size, and more importantly the don’t leak like the screw top jars do (there is a little plastic rod in the cap that plugs the opening of the dropper bottle when you close it- so clever!).
I’ve been obsessed with this photo of Sigrid Agren for Christian Dior Fall 2010 since I came across it on Pinterest, and really wanted to recreate that amazing deep plum lip with my OCC Lip Tars. From this, ‘Black Cherry’ was born.
I started off adding Vintage Lip Tar, NSFW Lip Tar, Plum Lip Tar, and Tarred Lip tar together in a small mixing container in approximately equal proportions. After I mixed it with my spatula and swatched a little bit of the mixture, I realised I needed more NSFW and Tarred, so I adjusted the mixture until I was happy with the colour.

Bottling ‘Black Cherry’
Because the opening of the dropper bottle without the tip was still quite small, I used a syringe to inject the mixture into the little dropper bottles (keeps things as clean and tidy as possible). The syringe I used was a sterile disposable one from the drugstore.
I’m really happy with my new custom OCC Lip Tar colours, they both look so gorgeous on the lip and have amazing staying power.
Here they are swatched on my arm- I’ve done Face of the Day posts with both of these to so you can see them in action. Expect them very soon!
Have you tried creating custom lip colours from OCC Lip Tars? I’d love to hear about what you’ve created, and how you package your creations.
