As much as I love all the sheer glossy lipstick/gloss hybrids that are coming through collection after collection, it’s refreshing and exciting to see Chanel create a beautiful matte lipstick.
I really love La Ravissante for it’s versatility, it’s feather-light silky texture, and the fact that it’s like summer in lipstick form (which is coming in useful since we’re not really getting Summer in weather form this year).
Matte grapefruit coral. Looks amazing worn bold, or patted onto the lips for a soft kissable coral stain.
It’s not a moisturising lipstick by any means, but for a matte lipstick I don’t find it drying on my lips. Glides on silky and evenly.
The wear time of Chanel La Ravissante Rouge Allure Velvet is outstanding. At the 4hr mark it’s still visible as a soft stain, which is impressive for such a light colour.

In the last few months I’ve been hitting the pool more regularly thanks to Healthy Summer 2011/2012 goals.
Here are a few things that I’ve learnt along the way about a) protecting my hair and skin from sun/chlorine b) waterproofing my makeup so even if I tend to look like a drowned rat in the water, at least I’ll be a well groomed rat. This is especially crucial if I am at the beach and there are good looking lifeguards around
Makeup Forever Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector #4 (dark brown black)
price: RPP US $19.00 or, approx $39.00 from Australian stockists
Although not as exciting as the Chanel Illusion D’Ombres, or NARS lipglosses, this modest product is probably THE standout cosmetic item of 2011 for me. I have very light and sparse brows so I was thrilled to finally find a product that stays on my brows through intense cardio as well as long swims.
Becca Beach Tints:
price: RRP AUS $42.00, or US $24 at Apothica.com
Becca is an Australian brand with strong roots in beach culture, so it’s not a surprise that they have some fantastic products to keep you looking cute in the water. I wouldn’t necessarily bother with these for laps at the local pool, but I’d have a tube in my handbag (for those lifeguards we discussed).
The Beach Tints take 5 seconds to apply, and clings on to cheeks and lips through hours of swimming and frolicking.

Foaming organic face cleanser with Lavender Essential Oil, Jojoba and Rosemary Antioxidant - to relax your mind and your skin.
This is a light, fluffy and mild cleanser that is packed full of certified organic oils and herbal extracts, with the classical relaxing and balancing fragrance of organic Lavender oil.
Based on certified organic castile soap, the Lavender cleanser is free from SLSs and detergents, so it will gently clean without stripping the skin of its natural oils.
price: 50ml (£5)
availability: www.mulondon.com (ships internationally)
When Boris contacted me months ago (or was it over half a year ago? Sorry Boris!) about trying the new MuLondon Lavender Foaming Face Wash, I was a little ambivalent about putting anything that 1) foams 2) is derived from soaps on my sensitive, dry skin.
Boris reassured me on both points, and told me that he developed for his own dry skin, with added unsaponified jojoba oil and rosemary antioxidant. I know how picky Boris’ skin can be so I figured if it works for him, it was definitely worth a go.
I didn’t know this until I looked it up for the purpose of this review, but interestingly Castile is an olive oil based soap that is considered to be one of the gentlest of all soaps.
The MuLondon Organic Lavender Foaming Face Wash, like all MuLondon products, is beautifully scented with premium essential oils- when you use this you really do feel like you’re standing in the middle of a field of lavender. The product is packaged with a self foaming pump, which dispenses a puff of silky lavender scented foam. A real pleasure to use.
Compared with other foaming cleansers I’ve used in the past, the Organic Lavender Foaming Face Wash is surprisingly non drying (although it does leave that squeaky squeaky clean soap feeling afterwards on the skin which I don’t particularly like). It’s gentle enough for dry skin, but I think that this would best suit oily- normal skin types.
Like all MuLondon products, the Organic Lavender Foaming Face Wash contains no SLS, detergents, alcohol, mineral oils, parabens, sorbates, silicones, emulsifiers or other man-made chemicals. Free from palm oil.
Aqua (Water), Potassium Sunflowerate (Saponified Sunflower Oil)*, Potassium Cocoate (Saponified Coconut Oil)*, Glycerin (vegetable, naturally occurring)*, Potassium Chloride, Potassium Citrate (Potassium Salts), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Oil)*, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Extract)*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender Essential Oil)*

I hope you’ve all been well and having a fantastic start to 2012 so far.
For me it’s the year of big changes and leaps into the unknown- I’ll be moving myself and Dizzy to Melbourne ( just because) after being very happy in regional NSW for over 3 yrs; possibly going to Peru for a month to volunteer alongside other eyecare professionals; letting go of old and destructive relationships and starting new ones; and of course in the blog-world getting use to life after Google Friend Connect. I should be excited but at the moment I feel a little like I’m standing at the edge of a precipice.
In other news, I wore Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Ebloui the other night.
- Two Faced Shadow Insurance to prime lids
- Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Ebloui (swatch and review here) on lid blended up to crease with fingers.
- MAC Embark eyeshadow smudged below bottom lashline
- MAC Omega eyeshadow to blend harsh edges below Embark.
- MAC Blacktrack Fluidline to line upper lashline and lower waterline.
- MAC Blushbaby blush

Sorry I’ve been missing in action lately. I had a very lazy holiday period, and when I was rested and ready to blog up a storm- My Funny Valentine came down with a mysterious case of trojan flu. Yes, again (FML).
For a few terrifying days I actually thought that I would have to either give up on the MFV for good, or move back to blogspot. Thankfully, Sarah from Dempeaux came to the rescue (well, technically her programmer boyfriend did) and we found 4 separate lines of malicious code lurking … maliciously?.. in my theme files.
I want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to all the lovely readers that tweeted and emailed me letting me know what the situation was on their end- what would I do without you guys?
[edit: less than 5hrs after publishing this post, Sarah from Dempeaux and her programmer boyfriend alerted me to the fact that there were suddenly hundreds of malicious lines of code on my blog seeded across a number of blog files- they were being churned out by some sort of Russian virus hiding in my TimThumb plugin files. Sarah's boyfriend was kind enough to nurse my poor little blog back to health last night- I can't thank them enough.]
So now that we’re back on track- here is a FOTD that I had been wearing quite a bit lately (I’m pretty sure I wore this on NYE) . It’s a plummy taupey soft smokey eye with a bit of Illusion D’Ombre shimmer.
