Fit For Fall 2012: Dietlicious 5 Day Cleanse review

I must thank Jade of jademusing.tumblr.com for thinking of the catchy feel-good phrase ‘Fit For Fall’ (tweets will be hashtagged #FitForFall ) to replace ‘Healthy Summer’. She’s not just a pretty face!

‘Healthy Summer’ updates have really dropped off the last 2 months or so, mostly due to straggling motivation. I’ve been making regular, but not frequent trips to the gym (around 1-3x a week) but not really pushing myself very hard like I was during in the first few months of ‘Healthy Summer 2011/2012’. Just staying afloat really.

Food-wise, I was in desperate need of a detox and a rethink of my portion sizes.

When I read the rave reviews about the  Dietlicious 5 Day Cleanse on Ms Critique and Me vs The Bulge blogs, it got me very curious. I ended up contacting Dietlicious, and was very grateful when Emily from Dietlicious offered to sponsor a trial of the 5 Day Cleanse for the Fit for Fall series.

My thoughts…

I had pretty high expectations for the Dietlicious 5 Day Cleanse from reading past reviews, but I was still floored by how amazing the food was. The meals were truly gourmet, restaurant quality fare prepared fresh- nothing like the plastic mass produced food you would find in the weight watchers section of the frozen food aisle.

Some of my favourite meals included the trout with olive and tomato crust (which comes uncooked  to preserve the the delicate texture and flavour of the fish, and just requires several minutes on a hot pan), the Indian vegetable curry with basmati rice (a delicious eggplant, cauliflower, and potato curry), and the Morrocan chicken on brown rice.

The smoothies were a real treat- they remind me of the Boost Juice smoothies that I was addicted to during my uni days, but of course these ones are much kinder on the waistline.

The things I did struggle with initially were the portion sizes and overall calorie restriction. I found it hard mainly because I had allowed myself to become accustomed to quite large meals over the last couple of months, and it was unusual to be not have that ‘full to bursting’ feeling after each meal. The first few nights I would go to bed a little hungry, but thankfully a few days in I had gotten used to the healthier portion sizes, which was a fantastic habit to form for clean eating.

I would highly recommend the Dietlicious 5 Day Cleanse for those that want a push in the right direction with clean eating and weight loss, especially if you lead a busy lifestyle. After a week (I had one day off in the middle since I had a work function), my tummy felt flatter and I had lost about 0.5kg but more importantly it gave me that great feeling of well being which comes from eating minimally processed, healthy meals.
