Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bold Gold and Pomegranate Punk: Review and Swatches

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bold Gold and Pomegranate Punk

After trying the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze and Tough as Taupe earlier in the year, they quickly became one of my most reached for cream eyeshadows because of their great formula and gorgeous colours. It was only a matter of time before I was looking for my next Color Tattoo purchase, and I ended up picking Pomegranate Punk (to dupe my shrivelled old MAC Artifact Paint Pot), and Bold Gold at the Priceline sale.

Pomegranate punk is a metallic burgundy with fine silver shimmer. It’s a sheerer, cooler toned version of MAC’s discontinued¬†Artifact Paint Pot. It needs about 2-3 layers to get good coverage and pigmentation.

Bold Gold is a sheer neutral metallic gold base with fine gold microshimmer. I was really hoping that it would look more like molten gold on my lids, but it’s more like a sheer layer of shimmer than a molten metallic effect- I prefer it as a base colour than used on it’s own. More on that further down.

Both Pomegranate Punk and Bold Gold are sheerer than my first two Color Tattoo purchases.

These are smooth and easy to blend, not quite as silky as the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad To The Bronze because the shimmer particles are slightly larger- but still pretty darn good. Comparable if not better than MAC Paint Pots in terms of smoothness and blendability.

Although these are on the sheerer side, Pomegranate Punk and Bold Gold have the same impressive lasting power and crease/budge resistance I’ve come to expect from the Color Tattoo formula. It lasts a solid 10 hrs or so before starting to fade on my (bastardly oily) lids.

These work incredibly well as an colour intensifying eyeshadow base. Pomegranate Punk is my favourite thing to wear underneath a burgundy brown toned eyeshadow like Rouge Bunny Rouge Bewelled Skylark– it really brings out the vibrancy of Bejewelled Skylark as well as locking down the colour. I’ve been loving Bold Gold as a colour base underneath Illamasqua Wolf Eyeshadow¬†¬†.
