The Maybelline Color Tattoos are one of my favourite cream eyeshadow ranges, and I’m steadily increasing my collection. (I’ve reviewed Tough as Taupe, Bad to the Bronze, Bold Gold, and Pomegranate Punk)
Barely Branded and Silver Strike are part of their new(ish) Color Tattoo Metal collection, and I was pretty keen to try these after reading rave blog reviews. They did not let me down- holy cow the formula is good. As good as, if not better, than many higher end cream shadows that I’ve tried.
Keep reading after the jump!
Colour and texture
Barely Branded is a pigmented warm champagne shade, which can be worn almost opaque or sheered out. The product goes on silky and evenly in both instances with no patchiness or cracking. It is lovely as an eyeshadow as well as one of the best cream highlighters around (spectacular on the inner corner of the eyes, cupid’s bow, and nose bridge ) with AMAZING all day wear.
Silver Strike is a pigmented neutral molten metallic silver. Just like Barely Branded, it applies smoothly both sheered out or almost opaque with no glittery bits (like Bold Gold Color Tattoo has).
Both Barely Branded and Silver Strike are creamy and easy to work with. I find these apply smoother and more evenly than Pomegranate Punk, Bold Gold, and Tough as Taupe. They are also more pigmented than Pomegranate Punk and Bold Gold (both a lot sheerer than I was hoping for). The real test is what the texture is like a few months down the track though!
Lasts for an easy 8hrs with primer on my lids with minimal creasing and fading (well above the 4hr average for cream shadows on my oily lids). These don’t smudge.
