Knee Deep was hands down my favourite culinary stop over my 3 days and 3 nights in the Margaret River region (and we dined out A LOT). We stumbled upon it while driving along on our way to a different winery that we visited on a tour the day before, and made a last minute decision to try this instead.
We warmed up with some wine tasting, then sat down for what turned out to be an amazing lunch. I had the charred corn with corn custard as an entree; and the market fresh fish (barramundi), pickled green mango, coconut broth, and mussels as my main. Phil had the kingfish inari, oyster cream, sushi flavours, cucumber, seaweed cracker for his entree; and venison fillet, beetroot, blackberry juice, native pepper, roast chocolate as his main.
Although everything was good- Phil’s kingfish inari and my barramundi with green mango were outstanding. The kingfish pieces wrapped in cucumber were super fresh and worked so incredibly well with the rich oyster mayo. My main barramundi dish used a lot of thai flavours, with the shredded green mango salad combined with a laksa-like coconut based broth. Really really tasty.
After lunch we shared a cheese platter outside in the beautiful afternoon breeze amongst their vines with a glass of rosé and their late harvest semillon.
