Illamasqua I’mperfect Collection: Immodest Lipstick, Katie & Ambition Blush Duo

Illamasqua I'mperfect Collection: Immodest Lipstick, Katie & Ambition Blush Duo

Hi everyone!

We’re back to makeup talk :)  Here’s a couple of exciting new releases from the new Perfectly I’mperfect collection by Illamasqua.

Illamasqua says…

The world isn’t perfect. But who wants to be perfect anyway? I’mperfection is an open invitation to stand up and show the world what makes you perfectly, imperfect. We want you to highlight the features other brands encourage you to cover up and celebrate your imperfections like badges of honour. So show off your freckles. Make beauty spots more beautiful. Shine a light on your birthmarks. And be proud of your scars. Because life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about celebrating who you really are.

“Within the word imperfection you’ll find I’m perfection; sometimes the soul of the word is staring you in the face. It is our so called flaws that make us unique. The beauty is in our differences, our imperfection is our beauty.”  Alex Box- Creative Director.

Illamasqua Katie & Ambition Blush Duo

Katie & Ambition Blush Duo:

I love the idea of a blush duo- I find that I almost never finish an entire blush on it’s own, and it would be a terrific space saver for travelling. The thing to watch out for with these duos is that you need a smaller brush to pick up the product than you would for a single blush.

Ambition is a  plummy pink with very subtle gold shimmer -> sex in powder form.  This is my favourite out of the two colours and quickly becoming my go-to blush for absolutely every type of look. It gives you such a amazing natural but complex flush (try it with nude lips- it is unbelievable), and can be layered to create a statement cheek.

Katie is a very pale matte bubblegum pink. It is paler than my skin tone, and although the pigmentation of the product itself is good- it doesn’t show up on my cheeks. This would suit super pale skin tones (I’m looking at you Michaela  ) better than mine.

* here is a pic of me wearing Illamasqua Ambition blush on the apples of my cheeks. I’ve used MAC Bronzer to contour here as well underneath my cheekbones, a full FOTD with Ambition, Immodest, and a speckle eye will be posted shortly*

MAC bronzing powder in Golden and Bronze: swatches and review

MAC bronzing powder in Bronze

MAC bronzing powder in Bronze

Unlike many beauty addicts that I know I’m not really one to have a large collection of bronzers- I pretty much stick with one product that works and use it until it’s gone (can’t say the same about lip products!). I’ve had my ‘Old Faithful’ MAC Bronzer in Golden (pictured on the left) for over 2 years and as you can see I’ve really gotten my money’s worth out of it.

When I decided I was in the market for a new bronzer I decided to go a shade darker because I felt ‘Golden’ was probably a little bit too light for my skin tone when used as a contouring product, especially in the warmer months. Please welcome ‘Bronze’ as the successor to ‘Golden’ :)

‘Bronze’ is the perfect contouring colour for my skin tone and is a shade darker than ‘Golden’. It has a matte-satin finish which I find to be perfect for natural looking contouring (my pet peeve is bronzers with shimmer or sparkle). I like to apply it in a C shape from my temple to underneath my cheekbones with a contouring brush.

You can see it in action when I upload my very first makeup tutorial youtube video later on tonight :)

Vera Wang S/S 2013 inspired bridal makeup FOTD

Vera Wang S/S 2013 inspired bridal makeup FOTD

Hi all,

One of the looks from the last Ready To Wear shows at NYFW that I really wanted to try was the makeup done for Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2013 (see the images in my Fashion Week coverage post).

The ethereal quality and the warm of the makeup worked perfectly with the romanticism of the India- inspired spring collection in my opinion. I also thought that the look created for this Vera Wang show would be a great option for bridal makeup if you prefer a more natural look over a classic smokey eye. There is a nice subtle shimmer in both the lips and the eyes, which I quite like. The one thing missing is a Vera Wang wedding gown!

I hope you enjoy this FOTD, I’ve listed and photographed products used below :)

Illamasqua Naked Strangers Collection reviewed: Naked Rose, Swinger, Stranger

Illamasqua Naked Strangers Collection Promo

Illamasqua Naked Strangers Collection Promo

It’s always an exciting time when a new Illamasqua collection comes out. Seeing the promo images and the story behind each collection is a huge treat for me and highlights the ‘art’ in makeup artistry.

The Naked Strangers collection by Illamasqua features a kind of nomad slash goddess slash warrior; she is adorned by an interesting mixture of brazen metallics and soft pinky nudes. Although it does feature some bold, editorial type products, Naked Strangers is one of the more wearable collections from Illamasqua.

Illamasqua says…

In this delicate tipping point between intimacy and pleasurable detachment, we revel in the unknown; exploring the distance between pure monogamous, gilded faithful and uninhibited swinger. Exposed nude tones, adorned with rich licks of gold, leave you gasping for more. Don’t restrain yourself. Unless, of course, you enjoy it.

Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Naked Rose

Naked Rose is described as a ‘neutral beige brown’, but on my cheeks it looks more like a dusty neutral rose. Quite a sophisticated cheek colour which goes well with almost any look.

Like the other Illamasqua powder blushes, Naked Rose is quite soft and highly pigmented so one swipe of the brush will pick up a fair amount of product; it also blends beautifully giving you a very natural healthy looking flush to the cheek. This is my favourite product in this collection.

RRP AUD$42

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s … BECCA Hyacinth Creme Blush

BECCA Hyacinth Creme Blush

BECCA Hyacinth Creme Blush

You’ll have to excuse my poor excuse for a  UFO joke. I have X files on the brain (warning- do not watch 3 seasons in the space of 3 weeks!) and everything looks like a flying saucer to me now, including this Becca Cream Blush in Hyacinth.

I adore BECCA products, even though they do cost a little bit more than your average department store beauty item. All the colours are so flattering and fresh,  the formulation is always lovely, and the packaging is luxe.

price: AU RRP 48AUD

Availability:  David Jones, www.Zuneta.com , www.adorebeauty.com

Colour:

The official description is ‘watermelon pink’ , but I would probably say it leans much cooler than that. It looks like a semi sheer delicate petal pink on my cheeks. Really fresh and pretty- a great spring/summer cheek colour.

Texture:

Hyacinth creme blush is light weight and non sticky. It’s somewhere between a cream and a gel texture (similar to Edward Bess Compact Rouges, but slightly thicker). It’s so good for dry skin because it gives me even colour without accentuating dry patches on my cheeks, and a luminous finish (even when set with a little bit of powder blush)

Performance:

The only downside to this product is that it’s not very long lasting (I have this issue with almost all my cream blushes). On it’s own, I will get about 2-3hrs wear on my cheeks and I find I need to set all my cream blushes with a little bit of powder blush to get all day wear.
