Bobbi Brown Telluride Eyeshadow Palette: Review, Swatches, FOTD

This limited edition collection is inspired by one of Bobbi’s favourite destinations- Telluride Colorado. The collection features shades of tawny nude, rose gold, pinky bronze, reminiscent of the late afternoon sun in Telluride. It consists of a limited edition eyeshadow palette, 3 Pot Rouge shadeds for lips and cheeks, a limited edition Shimmer Brick in Sunset Pink, and 3 lip trios (lipstick, lip pencil, gloss).

Bobbi Brown Telluride Eyeshadow Palette-2

I was very fortunate to receive the limited edition Telluride Eye Palette to swatch and review.

Bobbi Brown says..

” A palette of sunset-inspired eye shadow shades that deliver a range of brilliant eye looks. Featuring seven earthy eye shadows in a variety of brown, soft blush and mauve hues, this palette is a fresh take on a neutral eye—a major makeup trend from Fall 2015 New York Fashion Week. The palette includes a sleek Dual-Ended Eye Shadow/Eye Liner Brush for on-the-go application. ”

From left to right:

‘Cream’  is a (very) sheer matte warm white. I apologise if you can’t see the swatch, my camera didn’t pick it up well.
‘Woodrose’ is a sheer but buildable light brown taupe in a matte finish. This works well as a subtle crease shade that works with almost everything- I love this colour and wish it was more pigmented.
‘Velvet Plum Metallic’ is a medium but buildable pigmentation plummy bronze in a shimmer/metallic finish. The fine shimmers in this shade give the lids that ‘glossy look’ I adore . This is my favourite shade in the palette.
‘Blazing Star Sparkle’  is a white glitter shade in a clear base.
‘Heather Rose Shimmer Wash’ is bronze with multicoloured shimmer and medium pigmentation. The shimmer particles are on the larger side, and does seem to create a lot of fallout so be careful with the application of this one.
‘Antique Rose’ is a sheer to medium pigmentation dusty rose beige in a matte finish. Gorgeous shade, but it fades pretty quickly on me.
‘Smokey Brown’ is an extremely pigmented blackened espresso brown in a matte finish. This is a great shade because it works so well as a liner (it’s so pigmented it looks like a cream product even when applied dry), as well as a fantastic dark brown/black matte shade that blends out smoothly and doesn’t catch on the skin.

The dual ended brush that comes with the palette is pretty decent quality (surprisingly! I get so many crappy sponge applicators with my high end eyeshadow palettes, I usually just throw them out)  I use the fluffy side for applying and blending shadow, the flat synthetic bristles on the other side works well for applying Smokey Brown as a liner.

Chanel Destiny Blush, NARS Grand Palais, Illamasqua Neutral Palette, MAC Gold Pigment, Burberry Copper

I wore this makeup look to a friend’s birthday party when it was starting to get warmer in Melbourne. Peach and gold is a winner for sultry nights IMHO.

Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner Black Ink and Espresso Ink: Review and Swatches

Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner Black Ink and Espresso Ink

The Bobbi Brown gel eyeliners have been my HG eyeliner and a staple in my daily makeup routine for so long that I’m a little ashamed it’s taken this long to write about them.

I love them because they are so long wearing- not only on the upper lashline, but also on my waterline. It is pretty rare for eyeliners  (including pencil, gel, cream varieties) that will stay on my waterline for more than 30 minutes, and these will go strong for 5+ hours.  MAC Blacktrack Fluidline is a distance second in terms of lasting power on the water line- not bad in the scheme of things but will still fade significantly at the 2-3hr mark.  The Stila Smudge pots perform about the same as Blacktrack- but they dry out so quickly in the pot that the product is virtually unusable after a few months.

Black Ink is an opaque black with good pigmentation and a matte finish. Espresso Ink is a dark blackened brown, with no reddish tones (I find it really hard to find brown liners without warm tones!)- it is quite pigmented, although my swatch doesn’t show it.

What is your favourite long lasting eye liner?

L’Oreal Color Infallible All Night Blue: Review, Swatches, FOTD

Hi everyone,

I want to share a drugstore gem I’ve come across recently- the L’Oreal Color Infallible eyeshadow in All Night Blue.  I wore it to a friend’s birthday drinks on the weekend (FOTD below) and was reminded of how much I like it.

All Night Blue is a highly pigmented metallic navy with a matte black base. Gorgeous party colour that looks particularly striking on warm coloured eyes.

L'Oreal Color Infallible All Night Blue Swatch

L’Oreal Color Infallible eyeshadow are similar in texture to the Armani Eyes To Kill shadows- mid way between a pressed pigment and a cream shadow. I haven’t tried any of the others but the buttery smoothness and ease of blending of All Night Blue is impressive.  In many ways I prefer this texture to the traditional cream eyeshadow because you get the creamy application but with less tendency to dry up and harden in the pot over time.

I find that the best way to apply this without losing any intensity of colour is to apply with a brush first, blending it to the desired placement, then applying another layer with a clean fingertip.

This colour wears quite well with almost no creasing or smudging by the end of the night. I do find that it fades a little on my eyes, even with primer (most reviewers experience very little fading so this is probably just my oily lids).

Price: RRP $19.95

Smoking in the nude: A Lipstick Bandits post

It seems that every time I blog about a ‘nude’ a product I feel e need to make the post title more and more cheeky. Indulge me if you can.

So this September, it was decided at BanditHQ (aka twitter) that we were going to bring you posts of our favorite nudes. If you haven’t previously read one of our Lipstick Bandit posts, you are in for a treat as the Bandit group of beauty bloggers around the world simultaneously post on the subject du jour. We each have different personal styles and skin tones so you will get a unique perspective from each blog.

Nude lipstick FOTD with NARS Tzigane

Nude lipstick FOTD with NARS Tzigane

The nude lipstick featured here with a smokey eye is NARS Tzigane (swatched here as part of my NARS lipstick collection). Tzigane is one of my all time favourite nude shades and something that I feel goes perfectly with almost any look. It’s not a super pale nude- more of a MLBB peachy toned nude which I feel suits my skin tone best (pale nudes like MAC Myth lipstick makes me look like the walking dead).

NARS Tzigane is moderately pigmented with a subtle glossy finish and wears comfortably on the lips. Love love love it.

FOTD makeup breakdown:

– Two faced shadow insurance to prime lids

– Rouge Bunny Rouge Bejewelled Skylark eyeshadow (swatched and reviewed here) blended on mobile lid to crease, and extended out a little towards the temples.

– Rouge Bunny Rouge Bejewelled Skylark eyeshadow smudged under bottom lashline.

–  MAC Omega eyeshadow to blend any harsh edges around the RBR eyeshadow

– Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze applied to the inner corners of eyes and tear duct area as a highlight. I used the pinkish shades for the beautiful pink quartz coloured shimmer which goes so well with Tzigane and the burgundy tones in the RBR eyeshadow.

– MAC Blacktrack Fluidline to line upper and bottom lashlines and waterline.

– Majorca Majolica Lash Expander Plus fiber mascara.

– MAC Golden Bronzer to contour

– MAC Blushbaby powder blush on apples (swatched here forever and a day ago)
