Smoking in the nude: A Lipstick Bandits post

*Boom-tish!*
It seems that every time I blog about a ‘nude’ a product I feel e need to make the post title more and more cheeky. Indulge me if you can.

So this September, it was decided at BanditHQ (aka twitter) that we were going to bring you posts of our favorite nudes. If you haven’t previously read one of our Lipstick Bandit posts, you are in for a treat as the Bandit group of beauty bloggers around the world simultaneously post on the subject du jour. We each have different personal styles and skin tones so you will get a unique perspective from each blog.

Nude lipstick FOTD with NARS Tzigane

Nude lipstick FOTD with NARS Tzigane

The nude lipstick featured here with a smokey eye is NARS Tzigane (swatched here as part of my NARS lipstick collection). Tzigane is one of my all time favourite nude shades and something that I feel goes perfectly with almost any look. It’s not a super pale nude- more of a MLBB peachy toned nude which I feel suits my skin tone best (pale nudes like MAC Myth lipstick makes me look like the walking dead).

NARS Tzigane is moderately pigmented with a subtle glossy finish and wears comfortably on the lips. Love love love it.

FOTD makeup breakdown:

Eyes:

- Two faced shadow insurance to prime lids

- Rouge Bunny Rouge Bejewelled Skylark eyeshadow (swatched and reviewed here) blended on mobile lid to crease, and extended out a little towards the temples.

- Rouge Bunny Rouge Bejewelled Skylark eyeshadow smudged under bottom lashline.

-  MAC Omega eyeshadow to blend any harsh edges around the RBR eyeshadow

- Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze applied to the inner corners of eyes and tear duct area as a highlight. I used the pinkish shades for the beautiful pink quartz coloured shimmer which goes so well with Tzigane and the burgundy tones in the RBR eyeshadow.

- MAC Blacktrack Fluidline to line upper and bottom lashlines and waterline.

- Majorca Majolica Lash Expander Plus fiber mascara.

Cheeks:

- MAC Golden Bronzer to contour

- MAC Blushbaby powder blush on apples (swatched here forever and a day ago)

Work makeup: Soft taupe smoky eye and nude lips FOTD

Hello!

I wore this to work the other day and I quite liked the effect of pairing a warm peachy brown base (Ellis Faas Creamy Eyes E106) with a cooler gold taupe (Fyrinnae Beholder eye shadow). I’ve also really been enjoying using a dark brown gel liner to create a softer day time smoky eye lately, and Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Espresso Ink is probably the best dark brown liner I’ve used.

You have no idea how long I’ve been looking for a deep dark neutral brown liner that stays on my waterline and doesn’t have any shimmer/ bronzey tones/ red tones (MAC Teddy Eye Khol is more of a bronze, MAC Costa Riche liner  has a reddish undertone which makes me look ill, MAC Dip Down Fluidline is not dark enough, my Stila Smudge Pot in Brown dried up so quickly and was unusable after a few weeks, and Urban Decay Whiskey pencil doesn’t stay on my waterline for more than 5 minutes). So as you might imagine it was a happy day when I first came across the Bobbi Brown Espresso Ink liner.

Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF 15- a review

Why hello there!

I’ve raved and raved about this lip balm on twitter since receiving it at the Bobbi Brown bloggers event, so I thought it was time to do a proper review.

To be honest, I’ve never really give skin care products made by ”cosmetic” brands much notice. I know this is a silly prejudice, but I always seek out skin care products by “skin care” brands, and cosmetic products by “cosmetic” brands (which is why I never take an interest in lipsticks by.. L’Occitane, for example, though they might be very good). This is why I never knew anything about Bobbi Brown’s lip balm SPF 15 until this little gem made it’s way to my goodies bag at the event.
Review

As many of you know, I really have a tough time finding a lip balm that works for my problem lips, so when I find one that does work I am a happy chappy. I absolutely adore this lip balm (enough to cheat on my Petrolatum Detox. *shhh* ).

This balm really softens and moisturises my chapped lips, and I’m loving how my lips feel in the morning after using this balm as an overnight treatment. It has the perfect texture- applies silkily, no stickiness, but actually hangs around on the lips for a good amount of time (45mins, more than most lip balms for me) before I need to reapply.
The synthetic rose scent is a touch too strong for my liking though.

SPF

The SPF 15 comes from the chemical filter Ethylexyl Methoxycinnamate and a small amount of Titanium Dioxide (physical blocker). As far as I know, these sunscreen ingredients are non toxic and reasonably good UV blockers. *HAPPY DANCE* (more SPF info on Sunscreen Lowdown)

Ingredients: Petrolatum, Microcrystalline Wax\Cera Microcristallina\Cire microcristalline, Plybuten, Bis-diglyceryl Polyacladipate-2, Ethylexyl Methoxycinnamate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Octyldodecanol, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) seed extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Persea Gratissima (Advocado Oil), Olive Fruit Oil, Ozokerite, Cholesterol, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Phytosphingosine, Soya Bean Oil, Glyceryl Distearate, Castor Seed Oil, Oleic Acid, Parmitic Acid, Fragrance, Geraniol, Citronellol, Benzyl Benzoate, BHT, Titanium Dioxide, Red 6 (CI 15850)

Pretty Powerful: Bobbi Brown Event with Sebastien Tardif

Hi beautiful people! Just wanted to tell you about the awesome Bobbi Brown event that I went to a fortnight ago.
The event was a blogger exclusive masterclass which took place at Myer Sydney with makeup artist extraordinaire, Sebastien Tardif at the helm. We arrived at 9am (well okay, 9:15 in my case), stuffed our faces with delicious baby quiches, settled into our own beauty stations, and (grudgingly) took off a full face of makeup that we had perfected before arrival.

Sebastien demonstrated Bobbi Brown’s 10 steps to a fresh and glowy every day look, using the gorgeous Valerie (Ponikuta) as a model.
We learnt how to create a good base with skin care products from Bobbi Brown. We also took notes on how to create the perfect canvas with foundation, concealors, colour correctors, and bronzers. We finished off with my favourite part- creating a look with colour cosmetics!

Every few steps that Sebastien demonstrated we attempted to follow on our own faces, with the help of our own personal MUA assisting (spoilt much?)

The tough life of a beauty blogger….

I chose to use the Bobbi Brown Poweful Face Palette from their limited edition Pretty Powerful collection.

The palette includes 4 versatile eye shadows (3 mattes and 1 shimmer), a gorgeous matte pinky plum blusher, 2 lip glosses, and 1 lipstick/lipstain.

Having fun colouring in my face chart!

And if you want to experience the 10 step makeup for yourself, appointments are available at the Bobbi Brown counter.
The generous people at Bobbi Brown gave all the bloggers an incredible goodie bag including their famous Shimmer Brick, cleansing oil, eye liner brush, gel liner, lip balm SPF, makeup bag, and the Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual- I felt like Christmas had come early!!
I’ve already fallen in love with the gel eye liner, the eye liner brush, and the lip balm- expect reviews and more detailed photos very soon!

After the workshop I had a fab lunch with the lovely beauty bloggers  Akisa , Kimmi, Helen . Thanks for a great time ladies!
