Textured Nails: Face Of Australia Carnivale Collection

Textured Nails: Face Of Australia Carnivale Collection

I had my first ever textured nail polish experience when I received these Face of Australia Carnivale nail enamels. I’ve always been very conservative when it comes to nails- I’m a one tone cream or jelly finish girl (shimmer or glitter if I’m feeling super adventurous). So I haven’t really paid much attention to all these textured nail trends in the past 12 months- until now.

Oh my goodness these are so much fun. The glitter shades in particular look amazing (yes they do remind me of Venice), and I can’t stop touching my nails when I have these on. The matte ones remind me of concrete in texture- sherbert coloured concrete! Left to right, the shades pictured above are: Mango Slurpee, Ferris Wheel, Bird of Paradise, My Island Home.

For the price point, the formulation is fantastic- they are super quick drying, apply evenly, opaque in 2 coats, and resists chipping for 3-4 days on me.

“The collection features four gorgeous matte shades reminiscent of the beautiful colours found in the sky during a summer sunset. Four glistening glitter shades are inspired by the elaborate masks worn during the great Carnevales of Europe.”

Price: $5.95 RRP

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer: Review and Swatches

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer: Review and Swatches

There has been a tremendous amount of buzz around the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers (released in the US as Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer). These are a satin finish liquid lipstick formula.

1. Stargazer – fine golden shimmer (sheer- medium pigmentation)

2. Nude Eclipse- pale beige nude  (medium pigmentation)

3. Phenomenon – pale pinky beige nude  (medium pigmentation)

4. Solstice – mauve toned rose with fine peach shimmer  (medium pigmentation)

5. Celestial –  dusty pink  (opaque in one swipe)

6. Nova  – bubblegum pink  ( opaque in one swipe)

7. Apocalyptic  – magenta pink  (opaque in one swipe)

9. Stellar- bright neon red. This is a hard colour to describe because it tends to lean pink in some lighting and orange in others.  (opaque in one swipe)

Mermaid Blue: Graphic Blue Eyeliner FOTD

turquoise graphic blue eyeliner makeup look

Turquoise/ Azure blue was always a colour that I considered just out of my makeup comfort zone. Whenever I think of bright blue eyeshadow, images of Malibu Barbie and the mother from Bewitched come to mind and scares me off.

A few weekends ago, I tried using the new Face Of Australia Budgeproof eyeshadow as a bold graphic liner- and I quite like how it turned out. No hint of barbie- just a simple, updated take on the cat’s eye.

FOTD: Illamasqua Naked Rose blush, Time Balm, NARS Bangkok, NARS Tzigane lipstick, Face Of Australia Budge Proof Eyeshadow, David Babaii Boho Beach Spray

FOTD makeup breakdown:

– Too Faced Shadow Insurance to prime

– Face Of Australia Budge Proof Eyeshadow in Mermaid Blue* applied with a stiff brush in a thick line across the upper lid and flicked outwards. I used about 3 layers to get this level of intensity.

– MAC Blacktrack Fluidline pushed into the upper lashline and between lashes.

– Illamasqua Naked Rose blush on apples

– NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Bangkok

– NARS Tzigane lipstick applied above Bangkok.

David Babaii Boho Beach Spray* through mid lengths to ends and scrunched through for volume and texture. This stuff smells like summer in a bottle.

Poison Ivy FOTD featuring Face Of Australia Budge Proof Eyeshadow

Green and brown smoky eye nude lips FOTD

I’ve been having a great deal of fun playing with the new Face Of Australia Budge Proof Eyeshadows in the last few weeks. Poison Ivy (a pigmented forest green metallic) has become my favourite out of the four that I’ve tried- looks boring in the pot, but so striking on the eyes. You need to try this if you have brown or warmed toned eyes.

The formula is impressive for it’s ridiculously low price point – it applies smoothly without tugging, is longlasting, and you can layer for intensity without it cracking or balling up like other cream shadows can. See my previous review for more details, swatches, and product photos.

I will be posting FOTDs featuring some of the other shades in the collection over the next fortnight or so- watch this space!
