On Sunday morning I was having a play with the ‘speckled’ eyeliner look inspired by Illamasqua’s imagery with their new I’mperfect collection.
The initial plan was to keep it subtle and delicate, but I got a little bit over excited and went all Jackson Pollock on my face. P walked in, and asked me what was wrong with my eyes- I said I was doing ‘makeup art’ – he looked doubtful and asked whether I was going to wear it out to brunch.

If you’ve been following my blog, twitter, and instagram feeds in the past couple of months- you will probably know how crazy I am about these L’Oreal Shine Caresse lip products. These beauties have just been released in Australia, and I’ve reviewed and swatched the collection here (part 1: corals, reds, nudes) and here (part 2: mauves, pinks, berries).
L’Oreal Paris has kindly offered to give away three Shine Caresse lippies (you choose the shades) to two lucky My Funny Valentine readers. That’s right- the winner gets to choose the 3 colours in the prize!
How to enter:
To enter, comment below with your 3 favourite Shine Caresse shades along with your email (so I can contact the 2 lucky winners). These 3 will be your giveaway prize!
If you prefer, you can email those details to me instead email@example.com
The competition is open to Australian residents and will run until midnight 4th April 2013 Sydney time. I will draw the two winners using a random number generator and email the winners by the 5th of April.
Like most drugstore crazes, I’ve come very late to the party with these Maybelline Color Tattoo cream eyeshadows. It was only when I saw James Kaliardos work his magic with the Color Tattoo ‘Tough As Taupe’ backstage at Richard Chai Fall/Winter NYFW 2013 that I really paid any attention to these products. I picked up a couple from Priceline, and fell immediately in love.
Tough as Taupe is a neutral concrete-grey taupe that has a little bit of runway edginess to it. It has medium but buildable pigmentation.
Bad to the Bronze on my eyelids is more of a neutral shimmery fawn/tan than a bronze. It is amazing as a sheer wash or in a smoky eye. Can be blended out sheer or layered for a fairly intense metallic finish.
Surprisingly these are probably comparable (if not better) formulated than the MAC Paint Pots in my opinion. They are VERY crease resistant and long wearing on my oily lids, and the product is creamy and blendable- Bad To The Bronze more blendable than Tough as Taupe, which is to be expected since the latter is a matte.
I’m very interested to see how they stand up to the test of time- I found that after about 6 months my Paint Pots (particularly the matte finish ones) have dried up considerably.

And here is my version of the look….

I’ve recently been given the chance to try the L’Oreal Shine Caresse Lipcolours, which have just been released in Australia. These have already achieved cult status in the US, Asia, and European countries because they are a great dupe of the YSL Glossy Stains (swatched and reviewed here)
I can honestly say that these are my favourite drug store lip product releases in recent memory.
The L’Oreal Shine Caresse are like a lipgloss lip stain hybrid.
These bear a striking resemblance to the YSL Glossy Stains in terms of how they look, feel, and perform on the lips- they have a juicy looking gloss finish which lasts for hours, and the stain colour lasts even longer. Remarkably, they are non-sticky and very light weight on the lips.
Performance meets comfort meets prettiness.
The Shine Caresse shades released vary significantly from one country to the other (although there seems to be some overlap on the shades between certain countries)- I will swatch and review the 8 Australian releases, and also 2 Singapore releases (thanks Ilyana!) over 2 separate blog posts.
Pretty Woman- Sheer apricot nude
Princess- medium to high pigmentation bright orange red
Juliet- medium pigmentation red which leans a little cool on me.
Bonnie- medium to high pigmentation tangerine coral

If you haven’t noticed, Autumn (or Fall, if you’re not from around these parts) colours are my thing. I wear them all year round and I suspect they suit my skin tone better than than Summer or Spring tones- so when I saw these mini bottles of Autumn goodness land on my desk a couple of weeks back, I couldn’t wait to get them on my fingers.
L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Le Vernis Autumn Collection includes 5 Fall shades:
Creamy Angora– creamy peach pink beige.
Paris Avenues– dusty sky blue
So Chic Fox– sienna brown
Soft Chinchilla– classic greige
Rose Cashmere– dusty cool rose pink
My favourite out of the lot is Soft Chinchilla, because I’m a square. I can see So Chic Fox being HOT on the runways (mahogany seems to be the colour du jour), but personally I don’t think I can pull off a brown nail polish.
The formula of the Colour Riche Le Vernis is supposed to be nail colour and top coat in one. On my nails, it performed quite well in terms of wear time and resistance to chipping; however I prefer the extra shiny finish of an additional top coat.
note: please excuse my shitty nail polish application. Can you understand why I’m not a nail blogger?
“Delicately nuanced with grey tones, the Colour Riche Le Vernis Autumn Collection offers mid shades with subtle colour balances inspired by precious jewels. A palette of ultra-chic classic colours with unprecedented, timeless sophistication” L’Oreal colour designer Orrea Light.
Availability: Priceline, department stores, selected pharmacists.
note: these products were sent by PR for consideration.
