Illamasqua I’MPERFECT speckled liner aka Jackson Pollock FOTD

On Sunday morning I was having a play with the ‘speckled’ eyeliner look inspired by Illamasqua’s imagery with their new I’mperfect collection.

The initial plan was to keep it subtle and delicate, but I got a little bit over excited and went all Jackson Pollock on my face. P walked in, and asked me what was wrong with my eyes- I said I was doing ‘makeup art’ – he looked doubtful and asked whether I was going to wear it out to brunch.

Oh well.

Valentine’s Day Makeup: A Lipstick Bandits Post

Valentine's Day Makeup Red Lips FOTD

Hi everyone!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and the Lipstick Bandits have decided to each do a V day inspired lip.

My favourite style of makeup for Valentine’s Day is fresh, natural, and feminine- with most of the attention focused on the lips. For this FOTD I used the Ellis Faas Creamy Lips, which have a texture halfway between a lipstick and a lip stain. This makes them lightweight, and fairly transfer proof (ie. practically made for kissing :) ).

Valentine's Day Makeup Red Lips FOTD

FOTD makeup breakdown:

Eyes:

- NARS Grand Palais Duo (dusty pink side of the duo) blended all over top lids.

- MAC Copperplate eyeshadow blended on top of the Grand Palais to tone down some of the pink.

- MAC Chromagraphic pencil (light nude) NW15/NC 25  on waterline

- Individual lashes placed on the outer corner of top lashline.

Cheeks:

- MAC Bronzer in ‘Bronze’ to contour

- MAC Gingerly blush on apples

Lips:

- Ellis Faas Creamy Lips L101 ‘Ellis Red’ (review and swatches here)  and Ellis Faas Creamy Lips L102 (review and swatches here) blended on lips.

My top 4 lippies for redheads

Hi everyone!

Since going red, I’ve noticed that  some of the lipstick shades that I routinely wore  suddenly looked less flattering on me. When I went a more vivid shade of red a couple of months ago this problem became more obvious.

For example, most berry and burgundy lipstick shades looks odd on me now- with the red hair, these lipstick colours give me a distinctly late 80s/early 90s look that reminds me of my primary school teachers. Not necessary a bad thing, but not really a look I like on me. My choices in nudes, pinks, and reds have also changed.

I thought it might be useful for those with red hair and prospective redheads to list a few lippies that do seem to look right on me. This is in no way an exhaustive list, just the ones that I’ve been liking recently.

Illamasqua Ignite lipstick

I reviewed this a long time ago- one of my very first lipstick reviews when My Funny Valentine was in it’s infancy- you can see it here as long as you promise not to pass judgement on my earlier efforts.

Work makeup: Soft taupe smoky eye and nude lips FOTD

Hello!

I wore this to work the other day and I quite liked the effect of pairing a warm peachy brown base (Ellis Faas Creamy Eyes E106) with a cooler gold taupe (Fyrinnae Beholder eye shadow). I’ve also really been enjoying using a dark brown gel liner to create a softer day time smoky eye lately, and Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Espresso Ink is probably the best dark brown liner I’ve used.

You have no idea how long I’ve been looking for a deep dark neutral brown liner that stays on my waterline and doesn’t have any shimmer/ bronzey tones/ red tones (MAC Teddy Eye Khol is more of a bronze, MAC Costa Riche liner  has a reddish undertone which makes me look ill, MAC Dip Down Fluidline is not dark enough, my Stila Smudge Pot in Brown dried up so quickly and was unusable after a few weeks, and Urban Decay Whiskey pencil doesn’t stay on my waterline for more than 5 minutes). So as you might imagine it was a happy day when I first came across the Bobbi Brown Espresso Ink liner.

The newest Ellis Faas Spring Set brings to mind images of a 1960s flower child with it’s tones of caramel, lilac, and taupe.

Although it’s a Spring release, I find that the set of products are really versatile and easy to incorporate into an Autumn look (being in Australia, all the seasons are sadly back to front). My favourite product in the set is the Milky Lips L207, which is the perfect caramel nude on my lips, and goes perfectly with EVERYTHING.

The Light E304 is a vivid lilac with a metallic finish. It takes about 2 layers to achieve opacity, but layers and blends really effortlessly (I use my fingers) like all the other Ellis Faas cream eye products I’ve used.

Light E304 doesn’t crease on my lids, but it does tend to flake off after the 3hr mark and by the end of the day the metallic finish has half disappeared. This can be bit of a problem, but I guess you can get around that by reapplying the product during the day. Anyone have any ideas on how to reduce the flaking?
