Laura Mercier Deep Night, Bamboo, Topaz Eyeshadows: Review and Swatches

Laura Mercier Deep Night, Bamboo, Topaz Eyeshadows: Review and Swatches

Hello from the Northern Territory!

It’s day two of working in an incredibly well set up eye clinic within an Aboriginal health care centre in Katherine, NT. We’re in a rural setting, but the town is big enough for a YMCA with Les Mills classes,  and a cinema so I consider the area well serviced where it counts 🙂 Having a blast!

And thanking heavens for drafting this post before I left 🙂

Laura Mercier Deep Night, Bamboo, Topaz Eyeshadows: Review and Swatches

In the last 6 months or so I’ve fallen in love again with my Laura Mercier Topaz lustre eyeshadow, a product that had languished untouched in my makeup drawers for at least 2-3 years. It has been a staple ‘every day’ eyeshadow, and it’s versatility is reflected in the many FOTDs I’ve used this in ( here, here, and here)

I knew I had to get my hands on some more Laura Mercier shadows, and when I saw a swatch of Deep Night on The Glitter Geek, I made up my mind to pick one up for myself.

Emerald City: NYE Makeup Inspired By Pantone

Pantone announced that their 2013 Color of The Year is ”Emerald’ – a vivid green which works brilliantly with brown eyes. I really don’t wear green enough, and given that I own so many beautiful green eye shadows I really need to give them more lovin this year.

I thought it would be fitting to do a Pantone Emerald inspired eye makeup look to start the new year, and this was what I wore to see the fireworks on NYE in Melbourne.  I only realised this afterwards, but I wore a tangerine coloured dress that night- coincidentally Pantone’s colour of the year for 2012.

Back to the gipsy… that I was: a NARS Gipsy FOTD

NARS Gipsy with LM metallic creme color 'Gold', Benefit e/s 'Fawn Over Me'
FOTD with NARS Gypsy, LM metallic creme color ‘Gold’, Benefit e/s ‘Fawn Over Me’

I only just noticed that NARS Gipsy is spelt the way it is, rather than gypsy. weird.

NARS Gipsy is a semi sheer berry red. It is a very wearable red that suits pretty much any skin tone (I hate the term ‘beginners red’ because it sounds almost derogatory, but yes- it can be considered a ‘beginner’s red’). I wore this to death last winter because it is fairly moisturising and looks great against a ‘just out of the cold’ flush on the cheeks.

Texture: It is a reasonably moisturing lipstick with a slight glossy finish. Wear time is about 3hrs, which is pretty good for a semi sheer lipstick on me.
You can find swatches and product photos of NARS Gipsy in my previous “Seeing Red- My red lipstick collection” post.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far. I’m super excited about the Bobbi Brown event tomorrow- can’t wait to learn from the pros and meet up with some awesome Sydney based bloggers.

Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder Review

I’ve never worried about powders until I started blogging. Seeing my own face on my computer screen in HD in my FOTD posts has made me a little bit paranoid about all the imperfections that I’ve never noticed before. Like how shiny my forehead was.

So I found my very first translucent loose powder!

I chose this because I really had no idea about loose powders, and it was Christine from Temptalia’s favourite setting powder. (I go to her blog for most of my makeup decisions lol).

After a few weeks of use I’m well and truly converted. It controls the shinies on my T zone without looking cakey, makes me makeup last longer, and minimizes the look of pores.
It is a semi-matte finish and still allows a little of the ‘glowiness’ of my NARS Sheer Glow to peek through.
I like to dip my large powder brush (not my kabuki LOL) into the product, swirl it around the inside of the cap to distribute it evenly on the brush, and tap off the excess so ensure I don’t overapply. Then I lightly dust it on my T zone and the area around my nose.

I got mine from for $22.50 for the mini jar (9.3g/0.33oz)

Ingredients: Talc, Magnesium Myristate, Nylon-12, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Lauroyl Lysine, Methicone, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Ultramarines (Cl 77007), Iron Oxides (Cl 77491, Cl 77492, Cl 77499).

What powders have you tried? Likes/Dislikes? Enlighten me fellow beauty addicts!
