Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer: Review and Swatches

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer: Review and Swatches

There has been a tremendous amount of buzz around the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers (released in the US as Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer). These are a satin finish liquid lipstick formula.

1. Stargazer – fine golden shimmer (sheer- medium pigmentation)

2. Nude Eclipse- pale beige nude  (medium pigmentation)

3. Phenomenon – pale pinky beige nude  (medium pigmentation)

4. Solstice – mauve toned rose with fine peach shimmer  (medium pigmentation)

5. Celestial –  dusty pink  (opaque in one swipe)

6. Nova  – bubblegum pink  ( opaque in one swipe)

7. Apocalyptic  – magenta pink  (opaque in one swipe)

9. Stellar- bright neon red. This is a hard colour to describe because it tends to lean pink in some lighting and orange in others.  (opaque in one swipe)

Perfectly vamp: Becca Ultimate Colour Gloss in Berry Twist

Becca Ultimate Colour Gloss in Berry Twist

I have been badly lusting after Becca’s Ultimate Colour Gloss in Berry Twist since seeing it on fellow Bandits Xiao and  Larie. I was very fortunate to be given an opportunity to test drive Berry Twist for myself by Aussie hair and beauty online retailer (who stock a large range of Becca products).

Berry Twist is a highly pigmented plummy burgundy gloss with a high shine finish. It is both dramatic and sophisticated- my kind of vamp.

I’m so impressed with the formula of Berry Twist. The lasting power is impressive (only surpassed by YSL Glossy Stains); the gloss is moisturising, lightweight, and non sticky on the lips;  and the colour doesn’t bleed. Another plus is that the colour wears evenly without migrating to the outside borders of the lips (my pet peeve with dark glosses).

There are some gorgeous looking shades in the range that I have my greedy eyes on- in particular I love the look of Hummingbird and Flamingo Crush.

Sparkly taupe eye with glossy vino lips featuring Brun Glacé Glossy Stain

YSL Glossy Stain in #2 Brun Glace FOTD

As you may know, I’m crazy about deep vampy lips- give me a nice burgundy lip with a glossy finish an I’m all yours for the taking.

The thing I really love about Brun Glace (which is shade #2, reviewed previously in this post ) is that it’s a deep vampy lip product with a long lasting shine and colour that wears evenly on the lips- these qualities are harder to find than you might think in a dark lip product. I also love how you can use lip liners under this Glossy Stain to achieve anything from a glossy mahogany brown lip, to a deep merlot, to a rusty red. Of course, you can do the same with any lipliner/lipgloss combo- but the shine never lasts as long on me with other lipglosses. Also, I find that when I wear darker colours with a glossy finish, I get a really obvious migration of the lip colour from the centre of the lips to the edges, which just means frequent touch ups to avoid the ‘dark lip liner’ look.

Anyway, look! I did a FOTD.

My bathroom cabinet: Lip product organisation

Recently I overheard Jessica talking about a blogger with a YouTube Channel called ‘Organised Like Jen’ on twitter (of course, I didn’t literally hear Jess talking, but you know what I mean). The three words ‘organised like Jen’  uttered in the same sentence seemed so alien to my ears, so of course I stalked her channel. Jen is amazing, and a huge inspiration to other Jens like me.

That night I decided to do something about my bathroom cabinet, starting from my easy-access-favourite-lipsticks-area (separate from the other drawers of lipsticks which were not as loved) – which eventually became a mess of lipsticks that overflowed and started piling up vertically (and balanced rather precariously). Also, my lipglosses and lip liners were shoved in a separate drawer (see pics below).

I decided to have my most used lip products including lip liners, lipsticks, and glosses in the one place, and spent a gleeful 30mins ‘curating’ the easy-access-favourite-lip-products area in my bathroom cabinet. This has made mornings so much easier.

I also ended up organising the rest of my makeup, and came up with bags of things to gift, bin, and blog sale. It was SO SATISFYING.

L’Oreal Shine Caresse: swatches and review part 2

Hello beautiful people!

This is part 2 of my Shine Caresse review/swatch series, which features the pinks and mauves in the Australian release. Part 1 features the reds, peaches, and nude Shine Caresse shades, and can be found here.

As I mentioned in part 1- the Shine Caresse formula boasts impressive wear time both in terms of the glossiness and the colour stain. They are light weight on the lips, and wear comfortably for a good few hours. Pigmentation varies between the colours and is anything from very sheer (Marilyn and Lolita) to very pigmented (Milady)- but all shades will deepen on the lips after about 10 seconds as they set.

My absolute favourites in the Australian Shine Caresse range are: Milady, Juliet, and Bonnie. I also love Pretty Woman, which is a Singapore release (thanks Ilyana of Tea Noir)

Romy- semi sheer warm petal pink with subtle silvery shimmer

Lolita- sheer peach

Marilyn– Sheer cool pink

Eve- semi sheer cool pink with subtle silvery shimmer

Milady- Dark, medium to high pigmentation grape- berry

My absolute favourites in the Australian Shine Caresse range are: Milady, Juliet, and Bonnie. I also love Pretty Woman, which is a Singapore release (thanks Ilyana of Tea Noir)
