BECCA Ultimate Matte Lip Colour Reviewed: Amelia, Aurora, Adele

Oh my goodness I am so smitten.

Amelia, Aurora, and Adele Ultimate Matte Lip Colours by BECCA Cosmetics have really surpassed my expectations. These are up there with my favourite matte finishes (comparable to Illamasqua matte lipsticks and Burberry mattes) – and the colours are gorgeous. I’m especially fond of Adele, which is a breathtaking vivid fuschia shade with comfortable wear and amazing lasting power. Watch this space for a giveaway for these (very very soon).

Colour:

Amelia: A lovely warm guava pink matte. It’s not completely opaque with one layer, allowing some of your natural lip colour to peek through- which I think works really well with the delicate feel of this colour. You can build up the colour to almost opaque with a few layers- the colour deepens to a medium rose when layered.

Aurora: coral toned red. I find that it’s a lot closer to true red on my lips than coral/orange compared with how it looks on other reviewers. I think this is probably because my natural lip colour is quite pigmented and cool toned, which shows through a little bit.

Adele: A stunning deep fuschia with full pigmentation- a bit of a surprise given that it looks like a brown toned merlot shade on the bullet. It’s a very saturated intense colour, which is quite bold but very wearable at the same time.

Illamasqua Magnetism Lipstick: Review and Swatches

Illamasqua Magnetism Lipstick: Review and Swatches

I first came across Illamasqua Magnetism lipstick when it was released with the Generation Q collection (great review on Anatomy of Beauty). At the time I wanted to pick it up, but was on a makeup no-buy so I held off purchasing this- until ASOS had a 25% off everything sale at the end of last year.

Magnetism is a cool toned deep mauvish berry (somewhere between raspberry and grape) with full opacity. It has a creamy, slippery texture with a glossy sheen- which is quite different from the super mattes that form the vast majority of the illamasqua lipstick collection. Staying power is great for a creamy lipstick (around 3.5hrs on my lips), but not quite as long as their matte formula lipsticks (around 5hrs) keeping in mind that lipsticks generally don’t last long on me.

Face of Australia has recently released a new line of budget friendly lipsticks and look and feel decidedly luxe. How gorgeous is the packaging on these? I’m impressed with the staying power and finish of most of the Lasting Looks Lip Creme line – my favourite shades from the collection are Many Moons, Coral On, and Love Berry.

Summer Lips: My Top 5

Blog imag

es Dec.jpg

For me, summer is the time to experiment with obnoxiously bright lip products that I might shy away from the rest of the year. I also like laid back, no fuss lip products- especially those that don’t require constant reapplication during the day. Here are some faves…

BECCA Beach Tint Guava:

The perfect shmexy petal pink in that awesome Beach Tint super matte finish.

NARS Heat Wave Lipstick:

I don’t think there has been a single summer for the last 5 years where I haven’t worn Heat Wave most weekends. One of my all time favourite bright reds.

BECCA Ultimate Colour Gloss Flamingo Crush:

A new love! Great for days when you don’t have time to put on much makeup. This + bronzer= instant glam.

L’Oreal Bonnie Shine Caresse:

Really easy to wear colour, in a long lasting gloss stain formula that we all fell in love with when these came out.

Ellis Faas Milky Lips L207:

Bridget Bardot lips. Seriously sexy caramel nude.

Illamasqua Sacred Hour Collection: Review, Swatches, FOTD

Illamasqua Sacred Hour Collection: Review, Swatches, FOTD

The Sacred Hour is the time to release your inner warrior. Embrace new beginnings at daybreak and re-stoke the fire in your heart as the sun sets. Breathe in the elements, enhance your features, and express yourself. Find your courage, wisdom and power within.

Another incredibly sexy collection by Illamasqua, and one of my favourites this year. I love the medieval feel of the collection, and I’m digging the distinct looks for the ‘Dawn Spirit’ and ‘Dusk Warrior’ – representing the two ‘sacred’ hours of the day. Illamasqua has a great short film that you should check out for an in depth look at the imagery and mood for the collection.
