Pantone announced that their 2013 Color of The Year is ”Emerald’ – a vivid green which works brilliantly with brown eyes. I really don’t wear green enough, and given that I own so many beautiful green eye shadows I really need to give them more lovin this year.
I thought it would be fitting to do a Pantone Emerald inspired eye makeup look to start the new year, and this was what I wore to see the fireworks on NYE in Melbourne. I only realised this afterwards, but I wore a tangerine coloured dress that night- coincidentally Pantone’s colour of the year for 2012.

Snow White and the Huntsman was a film that I watched purely for the makeup and costume design (it’s not the first, and it certainly won’t be the last, *cough* Marie Antoinette*cough*). If you have been under a huge rock for the last year, and haven’t heard of the movie- it’s a reimagining of the Snow White fairy tale and stars Charlize Theron as ‘Ravenna’ (the evil queen), Kristen Stewart as Snow White, and Chris Helmsworth as the Huntsman.
Charlize Theron looked breathtaking in her role- in fact, I had a niggling feeling that the mirror was lying to her face when he said that Snow White, who had just come of age, was actually better looking than her. We all know that mirrors lie, right?
Anyway, as I was watching Charlize Theron as Evil Queen Ravenna in the film, I knew I had to try my hand at recreating some of the smoky eye looks that she was wearing in the film. For the look I came up with, I did a mish-mash of the different smoky eyes that she wore in the film and in the promo images. Queen Ravenna liked to bring her dark eyeshadow right down into the inner corners of the eyes, and also extend her eyeliner on the lower waterline right to the inner corner as well- I feel it gave her a hypnotic quality and really liked the effect.

A couple of you asked what makeup I was wearing in my sock bun tutorial post, so here is the FOTD makeup breakdown for you guys. My hair is curled here with a GHD (pretty atrocious job, which is why I put it into a bun later on in the afternoon).
I really hope we have a decent spring here in Melbourne. The weather has been so temperamental and we’ll have heat waves followed by freezing drizzly days. What’s the deal, Melbourne?
– Two Faced Shadow Insurance to prime lids
– Laura Mercier Topaz eyeshadow blended over mobile lid past the crease
– MAC Mauvement pigment on mobile lid to crease dry, then I applied Mauvement wet (using a damp flat brush) on the bottom part of the mobile lid.

– MAC Golden bronzer to contour
– Estee Lauder Pure Colour blush in Sensuous Rose blush on apples
– Lancome Color Design Matte lipstick in Corset (swatched and reviewed here).

One of the looks from the Spring/Summer Fashion week runways I really loved was the one created for the Giorgio Armani show in Milan. For the show, the makeup artist created a graphic silvery blue eye to go with a minimalist face, using the new Maestro Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Quad from the new collection.
I don’t own the Armani Maestro Eyes To Kill quad, so I improvised with what I had in my stash, which were some items from MAC, Illamasqua, Urban Decay, and NARS – (AKA ‘The Usual Suspects’).
My version turned out a little softer, and less graphic, than the original makeup look.

One of the looks from the last Ready To Wear shows at NYFW that I really wanted to try was the makeup done for Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2013 (see the images in my Fashion Week coverage post).
The ethereal quality and the warm of the makeup worked perfectly with the romanticism of the India- inspired spring collection in my opinion. I also thought that the look created for this Vera Wang show would be a great option for bridal makeup if you prefer a more natural look over a classic smokey eye. There is a nice subtle shimmer in both the lips and the eyes, which I quite like. The one thing missing is a Vera Wang wedding gown!
I hope you enjoy this FOTD, I’ve listed and photographed products used below
