DIY ‘Oil Cleansing Method’ Brush Cleanser

DIY 'Oil Cleansing Method' Brush Cleanser

So I’ve finally gotten around to doing this post that had been requested by a few of you on twitter over 6 months ago (sorry! Please don’t throw rocks!)

This is the formulation that I use to clean all my brushes- I’ve found that it works better than some of the alcohol based brush cleansers out there, particularly when removing oil based products like OCC lip tars and cream blushes.

How it works:

It’s based on OCM (Oil Cleansing Method) face cleansers, with an inbuilt emulsifier for easy rinsing, and other tweaks which makes this more appropriate for brushes. So it works like other water soluble cleansing oils like the Shu Uemura cleansing oil etc (for a while I was actually using my Bobbi Brown cleansing oil to clean my brushes but it was turning into a very expensive habit) For more info on facial OCM, and a fantastic  OCM recipe, see this post on Sarah’s blog .

I like to wet my brushes with warm water first, squeeze some DIY OCM brush cleanser on the bristles, then work it in with my fingers. The cleanser will go milky/creamy on contact with water, and then will rinse clean under the tap. DING! Clean brushes!

Oh one other thing- this formulation tends to separate into two phases on standing, so you need to give it a bit of a shake/swish before each use.

February Glossybox: Valentine’s Day edition

February Glossybox: Valentine's Day edition

February Glossybox: Valentine's Day edition

Ok, so I’m a little behind on my posting and I realise that February is almost over, but better late than never right? Regular posting will resume once I get back from the vacay.

So February’s box is packaged in pink and is Valentine’s Day themed. The items I’ve been enjoying the most out of this box is the Carmex lip balm and the Palmers Skin Therapy Oil- to be honest, the other items don’t really fit into my skin care or beauty routine (I’m not and never will be a Proactive user, I don’t file my nails, and I already have the Face of Australia Mineral Lip Shine- which was way too frosty the first time around). Personally, I thought the January Glossybox (which I blogged about a few weeks ago)had a better selection.

It was a lovely surprise when I found the beautifully packaged Glossybox in my mail a few weeks ago. For those that are thinking about subscribing to a samples box I thought I’d share the contents of the January Glossybox.

The first thing that I used was actually the $25 voucher for The Iconic. I bought a black sheer kimono-styled cardi which was on sale  (see it on my Pinterest board here). The Sheer Cover lipgloss I quite like, and I can’t wait to start using the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum.

Taupe and Purple: A FOTD featuring Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Illusoire

Hi guys!

Sorry I’ve been missing in action lately. I had a very lazy holiday period, and when I was rested and ready to blog up a storm- My Funny Valentine came down with a mysterious case of trojan flu. Yes, again (FML).

For a few terrifying days I actually thought that I would have to either give up on the MFV for good, or move back to blogspot. Thankfully, Sarah from Dempeaux came to the rescue (well, technically her programmer boyfriend did) and we found 4 separate lines of malicious code lurking … maliciously?.. in my theme files.

I want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to all the lovely readers that tweeted and emailed me letting me know what the situation was on their end- what would I do without you guys?

[edit: less than 5hrs after publishing this post, Sarah from Dempeaux and her programmer boyfriend alerted me to the fact that there were suddenly hundreds of malicious lines of code on my blog seeded across a number of blog files- they were being churned out by some sort of Russian virus hiding in my TimThumb plugin files. Sarah’s boyfriend was kind enough to nurse my poor little blog back to health last night- I can’t thank them enough.]

So now that we’re back on track- here is a FOTD that I had been wearing quite a bit lately (I’m pretty sure I wore this on NYE) . It’s a plummy taupey soft smokey eye with a bit of Illusion D’Ombre shimmer.
