Makeup inspiration from Fall Couture 2011 runways

One of my favourite pastimes is looking through backstage runway photos and seeing closeups of makeup looks and hairstyles. When I’m in a makeup rut, there’s nothing more inspiring that looking at these works of art created by people like Peter Philips, Pat McGrath, and Tom Pecheux.

These are my favourite looks from Fall Haute Couture 2011. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

–Chanel Couture Fall 2011–

Peter Philips did a spectacular job of creating makeup that would evoke  Karl Lagerfield’s vision of a dark, starry night. He used Illusion d’Ombre eye shadow in Mirifique (a deep black cream shadow with bluish silver shimmer)  in a dramatic cat-eye shaped smokey eye that was covered with a delicate black gauze. The lips were kept soft with Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip colour in ‘La Furtive’

–Christian Dior Couture Fall 2011–

The amazing Pat McGrath created several different makeup looks for this Christian Dior Couture show. My favourite is this ethereal, goddess-like look with over-sized sequins, fluttery false lashes and glitter glitter GLITTER.

Interesting to note that this is the first Christian Dior show in years without John Galliano (if you’re not sure why, just google the words ‘John Galliano’, ‘rant’, and ‘Nazi’)

Trends: Chanel Couture Spring 2011 flirts with Geisha blush

Mirte Maas at Chanel Couture Spring 2011

I was reading Vogue Australia yesterday when I saw some images of the Chanel Spring 2011 Couture show. My heart skipped a beat.

I absolutely LOVE the bloom of colour high up on the cheek starting just below the eye, reminiscent of geisha makeup. The way the Peter Philips did the blunt upwardly angled eyeliner is just beautiful, and very modern chic. Very Chanel.

The Awesomeness that is Illamasqua Ignite: Review and Swatches

Illamasqua lipstick Ignite packaging

While I was tire kicking with a few bloggers at Mecca Sydney, I saw one of the MUAs walk past with a gorgeous vivid orange red lip and cornered her (with a crazed look in my eyes I’m sure) to ask what she had on her lips.

It was Illamasqua lipstick in Ignite. So off I went to the Sephora website and MADE IT MINE.

Illamasqua lipstick Ignite

Isn’t it just gorgeous? If you want to see a full face photo I did a FOTD with this lippy in the previous post.

Bright orange red, tangerine colour.

Illamasqua describes it as a matte, but I feel that it is more of a satin finish with a very slight sheen when applied. I expected this to feel dry, like some of the Illamasqua matte lippies I’ve tried in the past but it actually wears very comfortably on the lips- I would even go so far as to say that it’s moisturising *gasp*!

It is quite pigmented, but not completely opaque (like NARS Heat Wave), about 75% coverage on first swipe but buildable with a few layers to an opaque finish.

I’ll leave you with some orange lippy goodness. I don’t know about you, but orange lippies just make me happy.

Chanel Fall 2011 inspired FOTD feat. the elusive Erika F.

Peter Philips blows me away everytime Chanel takes to the runways at Paris Fashion Week, and he’s done it again for Chanel Fall 2011.
He created a beautiful silvery blue/green smokey eye that perfectly compliments Karl Largerfeld beautiful post- apocalyptic vision for the show (all coal, smoke and moving shadows).
This is my take on the look:

Inglot bronzey eye with Pearl #421

I had the Alexander Wang Fall 2010 runway girls in mind when I decided to do a look with my Inglot bronze shadow. Unfortunately, I do not have the required cheekbones-that-could-cut-steel or the rockstar cool to really make this look but I had fun pretending!

I really wish I had some eye gloss though…

– Inglot eye shadow Pearl #421 on lid and lower lash line (for swatches and review click here)
– MAC cork in crease
– MAC mystery to darken outer third of top and bottom lids.

-MAC Bronzer in Golden to contour
-MAC blush in Gingerly lightly on apples of cheeks.

– A bit of concealor to neutralize lip colour
– clear gloss on top.

not really very exciting at the end of the day, turned out to be a work-safe look (which is great, because I’m heading straight to work LOL)
I’m really loving my Inglot shadows for their smooth texture, great pigmentation, and the fact that they stand up to an entire day’s wear without much fading.
