MooGoo Shea Sorbet Balm Review (and a Winter Skin Rescue Giveaway!)

Moogoo shea sorbet balm review

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Moogoo, particularly their body care products for my sensitive and eczema prone skin. Their Milk Wash and Milk Shampoo have been bathroom staples for years. MooGoo recently sent a care package with some new products that I hadn’t tried before (thanks guys!), and the product that I’ve been most excited about is their wonderful Shea Sorbet Balm ($17.95 AUD).

MooGoo says…

“For very dry and cracked skin, Shea Butter is one of the most intense moistursing ingredients. However Shea Buttter by istelf is too hard to be applied to the skin.

Our Shea Sorbet has been made for people we know with hands or feet  that are so dry the skin has begun cracking. We have called it Sorbet as we have fluffed it up to the consistency of Sorbet. Our Lime Essential Oil also makes it smell like fruit Sorbet.”

MooGoo Shea Butter Sorbet Balm

This is a multitasking product for feet, dry cuticles, elbows, and any dry sore patches that need more than the usual moisturising. The way that it’s been formulated (the hard butters emulsified with a small amount of water and apple cider vinegar), as well as the slightly whipped texture,  makes it quite easy to spread and absorb. This has been truly wonderful for my terrible dry feet, even better than my other favourite foot cream- Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme- it’s less sticky and absorbs more easily. It’s great as a rescue product for my dry cuticles too- I like massaging it in after applying some hand cream.

Shea Sorbet Balm Ingredients: Shea Butter, Raw Coconut Oil, Natural Vitamin E, Allantoin, Water, Rhus Succedanea Fruit Wax, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 60, Apple Cider Vinegar, Piroctone OlamineLime Oil , Hops Extract

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas 2015

Mother’s Day is coming up soon! Have you thought about what you might be doing or giving to your Mums on the 10th of May? I’ll be unfortunately interstate on that date but am thinking of taking Mum out to lunch when I’m back from South America. Some hand creams will also go down a treat.

Here are some new skin, hair, fragrance things that might be useful gifting ideas for 2015 Mother’s day.

Molton Brown Beautiful Hands Gift Set

Molton Brown Beautiful Hands Gift Set, Trilogy Gentle Calming Serum,Paula's Choice Clinical Ultra-Rich Moisturiser,Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Night Cream

(for dry, sensitive, skinned Mums this winter)

Trilogy Gentle Calming Serum (rrp $42.95) is a light hydrating formula that I find works well as an extra layer of moisture underneath my night cream, as well as a light day time moisturiser for the eye area. It is aloe vera based and includes extracts of plants used by Navajo Indians and Chinese medicine practitioners for their anti-inflammatory properties (I haven’t heard of these so I can’t comment on their properties).

Paula’s Choice Clinical Ultra-Rich Moisturiser (rrp $30)– combines rich shea butter, coconut oil, mango seed butter, squalene, and other botanicals to help keep dry skin hydrated. It’s a fairly rich formula, with a balm consistency – feels quite similar to Trilogy’s Ultra Hydrating Face Cream – and like the Trilogy product, it absorbs quite well without leaving an oily finish.

Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Night Cream (RRP: $36.95) Another range that targets mature, dry skin. The Night Cream By the way, there is a Mother’s Day promotion on the Wild Rose range- 20% off the range from the 11th April to the 10th May.

Sukin Hand and Nail Cream ($9.95) : I’ve been loving this hand cream for it’s hydrating and fast absorbing qualities- as well as it’s low irritant ingredients. I’ve purchased about 3 bottles of this already. Sukin is so good at making decent skincare affordable and accessible. I think it would be a nice budget friendly option that would go well in Mum’s handbag.

Molton Brown Beautiful Hands Gift Set ($45): released for Mother’s Day this year, the Beautiful Hands gift set contains 3 hand creams, each formulated with white truffle. There’s Orange and Bergamot, Gingerlily, Rhubarb and Rose. I was given the chance to try two of the three (pictured above), and they both feel hydrating and easily absorbed.

Jurlique Nutri- Define with Biosome5: Facial Serum and Day Cream Reviewed

Jurlique Nutri- Define with Biosome5: Facial Serum and Day Cream Reviewed

It was Maria who suggested that I try the new Nutri-Define range by Jurlique when we were having dinner together. I had seen the press release a month or so earlier but I was trialling so many other things that I didn’t really have a proper read of the details. You HAVE to try Nutri-Define, it is UNBELIEVABLE – she said. So I did.

I was really curious after reading the press information about their use of liposomes in this line.  Liposomes are well known as a drug-delivery system. As a tiny bubble- like structure with a lipid outer layer encapsulating your chosen substance, it traverses the top layers of the skin more effectively than the substance on it’s own. Liposomes are becoming more common in cosmeceuticals for delivery of  skin care actives, and now Jurlique has entered the game with their new luxury Nutri-Define line- which uses liposome technology to encapsulate their 5 anti-aging extracts- rosemary, horseradish, mulberry, peppermint, and glycogen.

Sulphate Free Skincare: Vanessa Megan Lemon & Eucalyptus Handwash and Lemon & Rosemary Cleanser

Vanessa Megan Lemon & Eucalyptus Handwash and Lemon & Rosemary Cleanser

Vanessa Megan Lemon & Eucalyptus Handwash and Lemon & Rosemary Cleanser Vanessa Megan Lemon & Eucalyptus Handwash and Lemon & Rosemary Cleanser Vanessa Megan Lemon & Eucalyptus Handwash and Lemon & Rosemary Cleanser

Vanessa Megan is an Australian certified organic skin care and home fragrance company founded by Vanessa Gray, based on their philosophy that “you should never put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t eat”. The range is cruelty free and eco friendly, with 100% recyclable packaging.

I was introduced to this range a couple of months ago, and have been trialling their exfoliating hand wash as well as their exfoliating cleanser.

The Vanessa Megan Lemon and Eucalyptus Exfoliating Hand Wash ($75.95)  is a creamy product interspersed with some jojoba beads for exfoliation (a glob of this is pictured above). Thyme and eucalyptus essential oils are used for their anti-bacterial qualities and a sense of freshness. Their Lemon and Rosemary  Exfoliating cleanser ($54.95) is a similar formulation (creamy and with jojoba beads), but includes Rosemary oil to “ease congestion and puffiness”.

Overall the formulation is not bad- it’s non drying, smells nice, and is sulphate free. My only qualm is that the texture of the products feel more like a moisturising cream rather than a wash and doesn’t rinse off as easily as I would like . From a personal perspective I prefer a smoother, more gel like texture for both products, especially for a hand wash- but this is purely personal preference and you might have a totally different view on what you like.

These products make my bathroom look and smell like a health spa- the scent of both the products are heavenly and I love the packaging.

note: these products were sent by PR for consideration. For details on my editorial policy see the PR tab.

Multi purpose plant oils from Aveda, Crop, and A Bit Hippy

I love how so many brands are now offering a pure plant oils and blends in their skin care lines. I remember a time when all treatment oils- whether it be for hair or skin- were mostly mineral oil and silicones.
