Hope you’ve all been well. I’ve just come back from an (awesome) holiday in Thailand and Cambodia- and now facing the madness of work, study, and what my friend Arjun calls “life admin”. It’s about time I did another makeup post!
This look is a work appropriate way to wear a little bit of colour for the neutral lovers amongst us. The green shade and little pop of gold also makes it a nice way to sneak in some Christmas colours- pair with a glossy red if you are feeling particularly festive.

I was reading this post on one of my favourite beauty blogs ‘Anatomy of Beauty’ last week, and I loved the bright zesty pop of green that Blanka used, made so wearable by the neutral taupe in the crease. I realised that I had not yet touched my MAC Bitter eyeshadow that I had purchased quite some time ago, and decided to take Bitter for a spin on Friday.
Bitter is a velvet finish citron-chartreuse, with sheer to medium pigmentation. I find that I need a matte white base for Bitter to show up properly on the lids- which surprised me after seeing so many super pigmented swatches of Bitter around the internetz. It’s a gorgeous colour, though, and if you’re looking for a delicate chartreuse for Spring- Bitter works wonderfully.

This FOTD was photographed over a month ago (that’s how far behind my posts are), and I was still in Melbourne. It was a pretty frantic few weeks- I was packing for my move out of Melbourne, flying interstate for a postgrad oral exam, trying to squeeze in as many catchups as I could, and trying to sell my furniture.
My makeup that day was supposed to be my attempt at incorporating greens and ‘spring’ colours into my look, but of course it came out very much a Fall makeup look. Nevertheless I quite like the combination of MAC Flourishing and Sumptious Olive- the golden sheen from Sumptious Olive gives the eye makeup a subtle glow.

Turquoise/ Azure blue was always a colour that I considered just out of my makeup comfort zone. Whenever I think of bright blue eyeshadow, images of Malibu Barbie and the mother from Bewitched come to mind and scares me off.
A few weekends ago, I tried using the new Face Of Australia Budgeproof eyeshadow as a bold graphic liner- and I quite like how it turned out. No hint of barbie- just a simple, updated take on the cat’s eye.
– Too Faced Shadow Insurance to prime
– Face Of Australia Budge Proof Eyeshadow in Mermaid Blue* applied with a stiff brush in a thick line across the upper lid and flicked outwards. I used about 3 layers to get this level of intensity.
– MAC Blacktrack Fluidline pushed into the upper lashline and between lashes.
– Illamasqua Naked Rose blush on apples
– NARS Tzigane lipstick applied above Bangkok.
David Babaii Boho Beach Spray* through mid lengths to ends and scrunched through for volume and texture. This stuff smells like summer in a bottle.

I wore a soft smoky eye last weekend, using my new Dior 5 Couleurs palette in Bonne Etoile (French for ‘lucky star’). The shadows are so finely milled and silky looking on the eye it’s unbelievable (swatches and detailed photos in my previous review). I quite like the dreamy quality of this colour combination- what do you think?
