LMFF Runway 07 Inspired Makeup: Scarlet Love

The look that Rae Morris created for Frankie Magazine sponsored runway 07 (Karen Walker, Kuwaii, Limedrop, Gormon, and more) combined an intense powdery white exaggerated inner corner eye look with a bright fuschia lip.

I thought it would be a fun look to try for a FOTD.

I tried staying true to the original products that Rae Morris used as much as possible, so that you get an idea of how the ‘runway’ colours look under natural day lighting. I find that the colours look VERY different to the runway/backstage images- especially the lip colour, which looks far pinker in real life than it does on the runway photos.

Some of the products that I felt didn’t work well on me I omitted (the L’Oreal Nude Magique BB cream makes me look like I have jaundice).

In retrospect, I think I should have done a much bolder brow to go with the soft, undefined quality of the eye makeup- just like what Rae Morris did on her 07 runway models. Without a bold brow look to frame the eyes with these type of looks, things just seem a little bit out of balance.

Illamasqua I’MPERFECT speckled liner aka Jackson Pollock FOTD

On Sunday morning I was having a play with the ‘speckled’ eyeliner look inspired by Illamasqua’s imagery with their new I’mperfect collection.

The initial plan was to keep it subtle and delicate, but I got a little bit over excited and went all Jackson Pollock on my face. P walked in, and asked me what was wrong with my eyes- I said I was doing ‘makeup art’ – he looked doubtful and asked whether I was going to wear it out to brunch.

Oh well.

Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Mirifique: review, swatches, FOTD

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Mirifique

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Mirifique

Seen first on the models on the Chanel Fall Couture 2011 runways, the Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Mirifique has made quite an impression on the beauty world.

Oh Mirifique, how I misjudged you at my first swatch at Myers! For some reason (possibly dried out tester?), when I swatched Mirifique months ago for the first time, the product seemed super sheer and a little crumbly so I gave up on the Illusion D’Ombres.

I’m so glad that I gave Mirifique another shot, because this baby has become one of my favourite eye products of 2011.

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Mirifique

Colour:

Fine silver/blue sparkles on a black base with a distinct ‘starry night sky’ look. Mirifique has a very pigmented base, and a high density of shimmer, so you get incredible intensity with one swipe (like in the left swatch below). It’s also quite easy to sheer out (like in the right swatch below).

Texture:

The Illusion D’Ombres are completely different to any other eye product I own. It is like a cross between a cream shadow, a loose pigment, and a mousse. Because it’s so soft it doesn’t need your finger to warm it up (unlike MAC Paint Pots, Illamasqua Cream Pigments or Benefit Crease less Cream Shadows), and applies like a dream with either finger, or brush. No crumbliness whatsoever.

NARS Fall 2011 promo image featuring Mariacarla Boscono wearing Outremer

NARS Outremer single eyeshadow was  released as part of NARS Fall 2011 collection (modelled by the beautiful Mariacarla Boscono in the promo images). This is one of my favourite collections from NARS in recent times and I’ve also gotten my greedy little hands on the Grand Palais eyeshadow duo which will be reviewed soon.

Price: $23 USD, $45 AUD

Availability: NARS counters worldwide, Mecca Cosmetica Australia (although I’m not sure when the release date is for Australia),  www.narscosmetics.com

Review:

NARS Outremer eye shadow is a stunning matte electric blue that applies true to pan. Pigmentation is medium on the first layer but builds up dramatically to the colour you see in the promo image.

Like many of the NARS matte eye shadows I’ve played with, Outremer has a slightly chalky texture and is quite difficult to blend. Nothing a little bit of patience and layering can’t fix, but for an eyeshadow that they charge $45 for in Australia I would have hoped for a silkier texture.
