Work makeup: Soft taupe smoky eye and nude lips FOTD

Hello!

I wore this to work the other day and I quite liked the effect of pairing a warm peachy brown base (Ellis Faas Creamy Eyes E106) with a cooler gold taupe (Fyrinnae Beholder eye shadow). I’ve also really been enjoying using a dark brown gel liner to create a softer day time smoky eye lately, and Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Espresso Ink is probably the best dark brown liner I’ve used.

You have no idea how long I’ve been looking for a deep dark neutral brown liner that stays on my waterline and doesn’t have any shimmer/ bronzey tones/ red tones (MAC Teddy Eye Khol is more of a bronze, MAC Costa Riche liner  has a reddish undertone which makes me look ill, MAC Dip Down Fluidline is not dark enough, my Stila Smudge Pot in Brown dried up so quickly and was unusable after a few weeks, and Urban Decay Whiskey pencil doesn’t stay on my waterline for more than 5 minutes). So as you might imagine it was a happy day when I first came across the Bobbi Brown Espresso Ink liner.

First Date Makeup… (or not): FOTD feat. NARS Chihuahua Lip Gloss

It’s ridiculous of me to think I can suggest a makeup look for anyone’s first date.

Everyone has a different style, and I think that you should look like yourself on a date- and if you’re into bold, crazy makeup looks every other day, your first date shouldn’t be any different. And god knows I haven’t had a ‘first date’ for years…

But I can’t think of another title for this post- so it stays. :)

I was delighted to rediscover an unopened NARS Chihuahua lipgloss that I had purchased over 6 months ago totally forgotten about (it was languishing in my basket of things I needed to photograph and review). For the past week or so I have been using this pretty much every day, and I can’t believe I ever lived without it.

NARS Chihuahua lip gloss is a medium petal pink which is pigmented enough to show up quite well on my darkish lips, and is one of the few light pinks out there that don’t make me look like a hooker (always a plus on a date!). It’s non-sticky, feels luxuriously cushiony on the lips, and has a pretty decent wear time for a light coloured gloss.

Earth tones with Fyrinnae and Chantecaille: a weekend FOTD

Earth tones with Fyrinnae and Chantecaille: a weekend FOTD

Earth tones with Fyrinnae, Benefit and Chantecaille: a weekend FOTD

Every time I use my Fyrinnae shadows I’m reminded of just how much I love them. The colours have depth and complexity, pigmentation is always amazing, and they are so silky and finely milled. I’ve managed to finally get onto their website and make another order of shadows recently (including two backups of their AMAZING taupe shadow ‘Beholder’). I can hardly wait until they arrive!

Fyrinnae Eyeshadow Swatches: Ravens and Writing Desks, Beholder, Samhain Spirits

A few months ago I tried the cult indie brand Fyrinnae for the first time. Back then I reviewed their Pixie Epoxy eyeshadow base (here) and I did meant to share swatches of my new eyeshadows at that time, but somehow this post got buried in blog draft perjury [edit: by perjury I meant purgatory.*head desk*]until now.

Better late than never!

Ravens and Writing Desks

Beholder

Samhain Spirits

Ravens and Writing Desks is a gorgeous violet-grape with a slight sheen.

Beholder is a taupe to rule all taupes and my favourite out of the three. I’ve  used it in in my ‘Taupe and Tangerine FOTD’ post if you want to see Beholder in action.

Samhain Spirits is a complex earthy bronze-purple with shimmer.

All three of these Fyrinnae loose eye shadows apply smoothly and look amazing on the eyes. You can ramp up the intensity and also get a metallic foiled effect by using their Pixie Epoxy eyeshadow base (reviewed here)

Price: between $5-$6 USD for a full size jar, and $1.75 for a generous sized sample.

Availability: www.fyrinnae.com

At the moment, the Fyrinnae website is down, and the notice says that they are not taking orders until later on this month. It drives me crazy how every time I want to get something from Fyrinnae, their site is down and I can’t even browse through the product range.

P.s. I’m so excited about being able to blog on public transport! I’ve just activated 3G on my iPad, and also just figured out how to scroll down draft posts on wordpress ( unlike a laptop, there’s no scrollbar on the draft area but if you swipe two fingers in the same direction you can move the draft up or down in the post window without moving the entire admin dashboard) probably old news for most of you, but it took me forever to discover this.

p.p.s I just had an amazing lunch today in the city with the gorgeous Christine from Hair Romance, Adeline from Through Beauty Eyes, and Maria from Crashing Red. Thanks for a great time ladies!

P.p.s. I’m not enjoying being on a train in this rainy humid Sydney weather.

P.p.s. SHIT. I just missed my stop.

Midnight blue smokey eye FOTD using Pixie Epoxy

Blue smokey eye look with Ameli Black Scandal and Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy

Blue smokey eye with Ameli Black Scandal and Fyrinne ae Pixie Epoxy

Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy is a remarkable product, and one that’s completely different to any eyeshadow base/primer type product I’ve ever used.

I’ve been playing around with it the last week or so, testing it out with different types of eyeshadows and techniques and getting a better feel for the product (there was a lot of FAIL along the way lol).

I really liked the effect of using Pixie Epoxy on my Ameli Black Scandal eyeshadow (swatched in yesterday’s Pixie Epoxy review) so I thought I would photograph a look with it. Enjoy!

Blue smokey EOTD with Ameli Black Scandal and Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy

Face of the day makeup breakdown:

Eyes:

– UDPP all over lid

– MAC Omega eyeshadow in crease

– MAC Scene eyeshadow all over mobile lid and smoked under bottom lashline

– Pixie Epoxy sparingly applied just on lower part of mobile lid where we want the shimmer shadow to go.

– Ameli Black Scandal (shimmery blackened blue) eyeshadow on mobile lid.

– Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Champagne on inner corner and tear duct area.

Cheeks:

-MAC Blushbaby blush

Lips:

-Revlon ‘Demure’ Super Lustrous lipstick (reviewed here. )

The main thing that I noticed using Pixie Epoxy with Black Scandal versus without is that the shimmer in the shadow is much more pronounced, and it does not budge.

Interestingly, ‘Black Scandal’ looks more black used on it’s own (the shimmer component mostly gets eaten by the brush), and more metallic blue when used with Pixie Epoxy.
