Khaki, gold, rose- work appropriate Christmas makeup FOTD

fotd

Hello!

Hope you’ve all been well.  I’ve just come back from an (awesome) holiday in Thailand and Cambodia- and now facing the madness of  work, study, and what my friend Arjun calls “life admin”. It’s about time I did another makeup post!

This look is a work appropriate way to wear a little bit of colour for the neutral lovers amongst us. The green shade and little pop of gold also makes it a nice way to sneak in some Christmas colours- pair with a glossy red if you are feeling particularly festive.

Metallic Sunset Eyes: Gucci S/S 2014 inspired FOTD

Metallic Sunset Eyes: Gucci S/S 2014 inspired FOTD

As you can probably tell from my knit on knit attire, it was not spring at the time that I took these FOTD photos- it was in the middle of winter, making it 2 months floundering in my drafts folder (bad, bad blogger!). The colours are good for spring/summer though! Molten metallics aren’t part of my usual neutral (*ahem* boring) repertoire, so I thought it would be fun to try something like the golden burgundy reddish eye look that Pat McGrath created for Gucci Spring/Summer 2014 fashion week.

I adapted it to be more wearable for every day by adding eyeliner and using a slightly more muted shade of reddish burgundy.

Eyes:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance to prime

– MAC pigment in Gold applied with a flat brush to the central upper lid area, stopping before the crease, then blended inwards.

Charlotte Tilbury The Dolce Vita quad: I used the burgundy shade blended in the outer V and dragged outwards towards the temples. I also applied some of this shade in the outer 1/3rd of the bottom lashline.

– MAC Mystery eyeshadow (dark matte brown) blended just above the lashline on the top lid, and just below the lashline on the bottom lid in the outer third to deepen the colour in the outer V area.

Cheeks:

– light dusting of Illamasqua Naked Rose blusher

Lips:

L’Oreal Shine Caresses in Lolita

Monochromatic Coral FOTD featuring YSL Glossy Stain in Camel Croisiere

_MG_8958-2

A couple of weekends ago we decided last minute to go for a day trip to Phillip Island, (approx 90 minutes out of Melbourne). The weather was brilliant, and in spite of (or because of??) our lack of planning,  it turned out to be one of the best Sundays I’ve had in a long time. We left after lunch and had a nosy around some of the sights on Phillip Island before settling in for a wine tasting at Phillip Island where we spent a large portion of the afternoon grazing on some really great cheeses and freshly baked bread. At twilight we made our way to the shore to see the Penguin Parade – something I thought was going to be lame, but turned out to be spectacularly awesome .

This is the simple makeup I wore- cheerful, simple, and long lasting. Those YSL Glossy Stains will get you through many a wine tasting without losing any lustre.

Golden Eyes and Coral Lips: A Lipstick Bandits FOTD

IMG_8226

Hi everyone 🙂

For today’s installment of Lipstick Bandits goodness- we bring you coral lips from our bandit bloggers around the world. As I was planning the post, I realised that I hardly touched any of my coral lippies throughout the Spring and Summer just gone, so it was a nice change bringing my MAC See Sheer out for a night on the town.

MAC See Sheer is a lustre finish lipstick. It is a peachy coral colour with medium to full pigmentation and a subtle glossy sheen- as with most MAC lustre finish lippies, See Sheer has a comfortable balmy feel on the lips and is non drying.

For a second I thought about making a pun in the title involving ‘Golden Eyes’ and ‘See Sheer’. I couldn’t think of anything that wasn’t totally lame so I will have to find another blog title to pun. One day!

You may have noticed that the lighting looks different in these images. I’m experimenting with artificial lighting to extend my useful blog photography hours to past daylight- the days are getting shorter and shorter here in Australia and most days it is dark when I get up in the morning, and getting dark by the time I get home from work. These pictures were taken in my tiny bathroom with some hand held reflectors to help with the shadows. I’m struggling to get the level of clarity that I get with daylight even with manual focus on the DSLR but I suppose it’s better than not taking the pictures at all.

Youtube Makeup Tutorial: Bronze Smoky Eye Feat. Illamasqua Ore and Maybelline Color Tattoo

I youtubed!

Apologies for some awkward moments (mostly where I can’t see what I’m doing and accidentally apply makeup like a 6yr old), and being out of focus for half the video- still trying to get used to my camera set up. It’s the second time I’ve made a video with my Canon 60D, and although I love this camera to bits staying in sharp focus is still challenge.

So much fun to shoot though! Hope you enjoy the video, and any feedback will be very much appreciated.
