For this Face of the Day, I was going for a ‘english rose’ type look with soft peach tones, flushed cheeks, and bee stung lips. I realise that colouring-wise I’m as far from an ‘english rose’ as you could get- so please indulge me here.
I’ve been crushing on my SAX lipstick in Plum Spice lately (reviewed here). I like wearing this deep rose brown shade blended into the lips as a stain (I find that brown based shades can look a little 80’s and dated if worn with a defined edge, so I always avoid lip liners with these shades).
– BurnOut Ocean Tested Physical Sunscreen SPF 30 +
– Lancome Teinte Idole Ultra foundation
– Too Faced Shadow Insurance
– NARS Grand Palais Duo (dusty pink side) on the mobile lid close to the lashline. (Review, swatches, FOTD here.)
– Urban Decay Toasted eyeshadow from Naked Palette (reviewed and swatched here) all over top lid to crease
– MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
– MAC Chromagraphic pencil NC15/NW20 on waterline.
– MUFE Waterproof eyebrow corrector
– SAX Plum Spice lipstick (reviewed and swatched here)
Hope you like this look!
And since Diz hasn’t been seen on My Funny Valentine for awhile- here is a photo of him patrolling the hallway.

This is what I left with….
Lip Tars! They were $14.00 at IMATS so I stocked up.
– Memento: light dusty pink
– Beta: (blindingly) bright orange.
– Stalker: Watermelon red
– NSFW: True red with a very slight brown base.
From the MAC Pro store-
MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in NC15/NW20 (I was so happy to nab this because I missed getting it with the Pret A Papier collection, and the nearest MAC Pro store was a huge pain to get to).
Quite Natural Paint Pot: I bought this at IMATS because I was under the impression that it was a Pro product because of a conversation I had at a MAC counter a fortnight before this.
[at the MAC counter at Myer]
me: Do you stock Quite Natural paint pot?
MAC sales assistant: you mean, Painterly paint pot? (clearly thinking I had said ‘do you stock a quite natural p/p)
me: um.. no, I’m after Quite Natural Paint Pot.
MAC sales assistant: yes, Painterly gives a very natural look (looking at me like I’m deaf or possibly intellectually disabled)
me: Oh, no sorry I meant the actual Paint Pot called ‘Quite Natural’. I can’t see it on the display, is it a Pro product?
MAC sales assistant: It’s probably Pro or part of a previous limited edition collection.
Anyhow, turns out that it’s not a Pro product at all and I should have bought it from the MAC online store from the US like I normally do.

You’ll have to excuse my poor excuse for a UFO joke. I have X files on the brain (warning- do not watch 3 seasons in the space of 3 weeks!) and everything looks like a flying saucer to me now, including this Becca Cream Blush in Hyacinth.
I adore BECCA products, even though they do cost a little bit more than your average department store beauty item. All the colours are so flattering and fresh, the formulation is always lovely, and the packaging is luxe.
price: AU RRP 48AUD
Availability: David Jones, www.Zuneta.com , www.adorebeauty.com
The official description is ‘watermelon pink’ , but I would probably say it leans much cooler than that. It looks like a semi sheer delicate petal pink on my cheeks. Really fresh and pretty- a great spring/summer cheek colour.
Hyacinth creme blush is light weight and non sticky. It’s somewhere between a cream and a gel texture (similar to Edward Bess Compact Rouges, but slightly thicker). It’s so good for dry skin because it gives me even colour without accentuating dry patches on my cheeks, and a luminous finish (even when set with a little bit of powder blush)
The only downside to this product is that it’s not very long lasting (I have this issue with almost all my cream blushes). On it’s own, I will get about 2-3hrs wear on my cheeks and I find I need to set all my cream blushes with a little bit of powder blush to get all day wear.
