It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Moogoo, particularly their body care products for my sensitive and eczema prone skin. Their Milk Wash and Milk Shampoo have been bathroom staples for years. MooGoo recently sent a care package with some new products that I hadn’t tried before (thanks guys!), and the product that I’ve been most excited about is their wonderful Shea Sorbet Balm ($17.95 AUD).
“For very dry and cracked skin, Shea Butter is one of the most intense moistursing ingredients. However Shea Buttter by istelf is too hard to be applied to the skin.
Our Shea Sorbet has been made for people we know with hands or feet that are so dry the skin has begun cracking. We have called it Sorbet as we have fluffed it up to the consistency of Sorbet. Our Lime Essential Oil also makes it smell like fruit Sorbet.”
This is a multitasking product for feet, dry cuticles, elbows, and any dry sore patches that need more than the usual moisturising. The way that it’s been formulated (the hard butters emulsified with a small amount of water and apple cider vinegar), as well as the slightly whipped texture, makes it quite easy to spread and absorb. This has been truly wonderful for my terrible dry feet, even better than my other favourite foot cream- Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme- it’s less sticky and absorbs more easily. It’s great as a rescue product for my dry cuticles too- I like massaging it in after applying some hand cream.
Shea Sorbet Balm Ingredients: Shea Butter, Raw Coconut Oil, Natural Vitamin E, Allantoin, Water, Rhus Succedanea Fruit Wax, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 60, Apple Cider Vinegar, Piroctone Olamine, Lime Oil , Hops Extract

MooGoo Scalp Cream ($17.90)It is packaged in a 120ml tube and a 270g pump bottle.
MooGoo Scalp Cream (and their Milk Shampoo, of course) have been a godsend for my dermatitis-prone scalp and hairline. When my scalp is particularly dry, irritated, or itchy it feels incredibly soothing to massage it in and there is almost instant relief from itchiness.
The formula uses anti-inflammatory actives and base ingredients (allantoin, aloe vera, hydrolyzed milk protein) as well as an anti- fungal (Piroctone Olamine). It is unique in that it is completely free from irritants often found in drugstore scalp care products (sulphates, glycols) and is safe to use on babies. For severe chronic inflammation you will probably still need prescription medication, but this should reduce dosage requirements for anti-inflammatories like topical steroids (which come with unwanted long term side effects).
I like using it before I wash my hair- massaging the scalp cream in for a good few minutes to loosen dandruff, then leaving it in for 10-20 mins before I shower.
MooGoo Scalp Cream ingredients: Aqua, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Squalene (Olive), Hydrolized Milk Protein, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera), Allantoin, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Piroctone Olamine, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (Guar Gum), Polysorbate 60 (Food Grade Emulsifier), Mel (Honey), Acetum (Apple Cider Vinegar), Pyrus Communis (Pear) Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract.

This cream is made using the moisturizing base of our Full Cream with the addition 10% MSM (Organic Sulfur) and the removal of Milk Protein. This is the maximum amount of MSM we could add to the cream. Just mention MSM and watch the Naturopaths go nuts about its skin calming properties. The cream uses Sweet Almond Oil which is one of the best moisturising oils for irritated skin due to its essential fatty acid profile. The cream is also fully loaded with other natural skin healing ingredients. These include Allantoin (Comfrey Root Active), Vitamin E, Aloe Vera and Honey. [product description from MooGoo website]
Price: Available in 250ml Jar ($24.90) or 75ml Airless Travel Pump ($17.95).
Availability: www.moogoo.com.au , selected pharmacies and health food stores.
I purchased the MooGoo MSM Soothing cream about 6 weeks ago at my local health food store because I already loved the MooGoo Full cream (reviewed here ) and was intrigued by the addition of 10% MSM to the Full Cream formula.
MSM, or Methylsulfonylmethane is a sulphur compound that some claim to help with inflammatory conditions such as eczema and arthritis. There has been no scientific study on this to date, so those claims are purely anecdotal. MSM is a naturally occuring compound in the body and is perfectly safe, so I’m willing to give anything that might help with redness/inflammation a try!
The MooGoo MSM Soothing Cream is creamy and rich but sinks right into my skin (I’ve been using it mostly on my face). I’ve found that it’s a really lovely facial moisturiser, working well to hydrate my skin without leaving any greasiness.
I do find it soothing, just like the normal MooGoo Full Cream but I’m not convinced that it has any further anti inflammatory properties than the Full Cream already does (through the Allantoin, Aloe Vera and other soothing ingredients), so I can’t say that the MSM itself has any real additional effect on my skin.
The MooGoo MSM Soothing Cream has the trademark MooGoo milk and honey scent, which I really like.
The big plus with the MooGoo MSM Soothing Cream over the Full Cream is in the packaging. I love airless pumps- I think everything should come in an airless pump bottle. It keeps the cream fresher and more hygienic as well as makes the product much nicer to use.
Ingredients: Purified Water, MSM, Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Olive Squalene, Emulsifying Wax, Allantoin (Comfrey Active), Aloe Vera, Glyceryl Capylate, Piroctone Olamine, Vitamin E, Refined Honey, Apple Cider Vinegar.

Have you ever noticed how almost every brand of washing product is a combination of Water and Sodium Laureth Sulphate or Ammonium Laureth Sulphate? These are used as they are the least expensive and easy to manufacture. Just add water and some salt to thicken, and that is almost all that is really needed.
Although fine for some people, Laureth Sulphates are not the best cleansers for sensitive or dry skin as they remove too much oil and are more irritating.
MooGoo Milk Wash uses a glucose based cleanser called “Capric Glucoside”. This was originally developed for baby wipes and face wipes and has the same skin irritation score as water. [product description segment taken from MooGoo website]
Price: AU$17.50 for 500mL

When winter hits , I start looking for good SLS / sulfate free body washes. Heating, low humidity, and harsh winds all conspire to suck the moisture out of my skin, the last thing I need is my body wash to further strip its delicate protective acid mantle.
I found that the MooGoo Milk Wash fits the bill perfectly. The cleansing agents Capryl Glucoside (from Glucose), Cocomidopropyl Betaine (from Coconut Oil) leave my skin feeling well cleansed but never tight or dry.
It’s a low-lathering cleanser, so don’t expect a foam bomb like your typical supermarket body washes. This might take a little getting used to for those who love lather- but trust me, you don’t need the foam to clean, in fact the detergent type additives that help foam up your cleanser are also the ones that strip the life out of your skin.
There is a faint scent of milk and honey that I’ve started associating with MooGoo products, and which I find lovely in winter.
If you haven’t already noticed, there is some major MooGoo love happening in my bathroom. Another product which I highly recommend is the MooGoo Milk Shampoo (read more in my review ‘MooGoo Milk Shampoo Saved My Scalp‘).
Available in 250ml Jar or 75ml Airless Travel Pump This is a “creamier” version of the original Udder Cream moisturiser. It is designed to moisturise easily irritated skin using natural ingredients. The base oil of the cream is Sweet Almond Oil. This is high in the types of fatty acids needed for troubled skin. Also raw Coconut Oil which naturopaths often use as a skin soothing oil. Other ingredients include pasteurised honey (so safe for babies). The pH is balanced to the skin through the use of Apple Cider Vinegar. Naturally, the apple and honey give the cream a wonderful fragrance and there is no need for us to add any other fragrance. [product description from MooGoo website]
$13.50 for 75mL (travel sized airless pump bottle) $18.50 for 250mL (as shown above)

I love discovering new ‘natural’ skin care brands. My local health food store stocks awesome organic skin care lines, and since picking up the MooGoo Milk Shampoo about a month ago (reviewed here), I’m gradually getting hooked on the other products in their line. I will be reviewing the MooGoo Milk Wash and their MSM soothing cream in the coming weeks.
Like all MooGoo products, MooGoo Full Cream is made with skin loving ingredients and no fillers. Also in line with the brand’s focus, the cream is developed for sensitive, eczema prone skin, with anti inflammatory ingredients like Allantoin, Aloe Vera, and raw coconut oil. This is perfect for me at this time of year because my skin gets very aggravated by the cold and the severe drop in indoor humidity levels with ducted heating.
It smells like milk and honey, and feels incredibly comforting after a long day. It is very soothing and quite hydrating, but with my super dry skin I like to alternate this with a body butter (or more recently, my DIY Shea Butter, Honey, and B5 body cream) for the extra emolliency and barrier function that butters provide.
I love the cute pictures of cows on the MooGoo packaging and website too
full ingredients list: purified water, sweet almond oil, olive oil, olive squalene, raw coconut oil, emulsifying wax, milk protein, allantoin, aloe vera, vitamin E, apple cidar vinegar, pasteurised honey, gyceryl caprylate, piroctone olamine, guarsilk.
The MooGoo website has a wealth of information on all the ingredients used in each product, as well as info on the ingredients that they DON’T use. Go take a look, it’s quite an interesting read.Posted by myfunnyvalentine on Jun 18th, 2011 in Reviews, Skincare | 58441commentsSkin+Care+Saturday-+MooGoo+Full+Cream2011-06-18+11%3A44%3A17myfunnyvalentinehttp%3A%2F%2Fmyfunnyvalentineblog.com%2F%3Fp%3D584
