It’s ridiculous of me to think I can suggest a makeup look for anyone’s first date.
Everyone has a different style, and I think that you should look like yourself on a date- and if you’re into bold, crazy makeup looks every other day, your first date shouldn’t be any different. And god knows I haven’t had a ‘first date’ for years…
But I can’t think of another title for this post- so it stays.
I was delighted to rediscover an unopened NARS Chihuahua lipgloss that I had purchased over 6 months ago totally forgotten about (it was languishing in my basket of things I needed to photograph and review). For the past week or so I have been using this pretty much every day, and I can’t believe I ever lived without it.
NARS Chihuahua lip gloss is a medium petal pink which is pigmented enough to show up quite well on my darkish lips, and is one of the few light pinks out there that don’t make me look like a hooker (always a plus on a date!). It’s non-sticky, feels luxuriously cushiony on the lips, and has a pretty decent wear time for a light coloured gloss.
– Two Faced Shadow Insurance to prime lids.
– MAC Quite Natural Paint Pot (swatched here) smudged on mobile lid to crease.
– MAC Omega eyeshadow to blend out harsh edges
– Fyrinnae ‘Beholder’ (the perfect PERFECT taupe) on top of the paint pot, on mobile lid. swatched here.
– Stila Smudgepot Matte Brown to line bottom lashline (nothing on waterline for once)
– Urban Decay ‘Buck’ eyeshadow from Naked Palette (reviewed here) smudged underneath the Stila Smudgepot.
– Urban Decay ‘Sin’ eyeshadow (shimmery pink champagne) from Naked palette on inner corners.
– Bobbi Brown gel liner in ‘Ink’ to line top lashline.
– MAC ‘Golden’ Bronzer to contour
– MAC ‘Gingerly‘ Blush on apples
– NARS Chihuahua lipgloss
What would you wear on a first/second/third date? I’d love to know!Posted by myfunnyvalentine on Feb 27th, 2012 in FOTD, Lip Gloss, NARS | 39870 comments. Valentine’s Day is less than a day away, and frankly I can hardly wait. Tomorrow P and I are getting on a flight to Hobart for a much needed holiday (the last time I managed to get away for a holiday was my trip to New York in November 2011, and it’s getting to the stage where just getting through each day at work felt like torture. First world problems? Perhaps.)
Although I’m not a huge fan of chocolate or flowers, I do like having something pretty on my lips during V day. Miranda from Clinique HQ very kindly sent me her favourite Valentine’s lip products : Clinique Chunky Cherry Chubby Stick and Clinique Extreme Pink High Impact Lip Colour. I thought I would swatch, review, and FOTD them for you, loved up reader.
Price: Chubby Sticks: $35.00 AUD, High Impact Lip Colour: $36.00 AUD
Availability: Clinique counters worldwide, Myer department stores.]

For this Face of the Day, I was going for a ‘english rose’ type look with soft peach tones, flushed cheeks, and bee stung lips. I realise that colouring-wise I’m as far from an ‘english rose’ as you could get- so please indulge me here.
I’ve been crushing on my SAX lipstick in Plum Spice lately (reviewed here). I like wearing this deep rose brown shade blended into the lips as a stain (I find that brown based shades can look a little 80’s and dated if worn with a defined edge, so I always avoid lip liners with these shades).
– BurnOut Ocean Tested Physical Sunscreen SPF 30 +
– Lancome Teinte Idole Ultra foundation
– Too Faced Shadow Insurance
– NARS Grand Palais Duo (dusty pink side) on the mobile lid close to the lashline. (Review, swatches, FOTD here.)
– Urban Decay Toasted eyeshadow from Naked Palette (reviewed and swatched here) all over top lid to crease
– MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
– MAC Chromagraphic pencil NC15/NW20 on waterline.
– MUFE Waterproof eyebrow corrector
– SAX Plum Spice lipstick (reviewed and swatched here)
Hope you like this look!
And since Diz hasn’t been seen on My Funny Valentine for awhile- here is a photo of him patrolling the hallway.

When the NARS Fall 2011 collection came out, I was very excited to see NARS do a wearable pink eyeshadow. Finally, a pink that doesn’t make me look like 1. I’ve been crying all night or 2. Christina Aguilera.
I’m also a sucker for names. This Nars eyeshadow duo is named after the Grand Palais in Paris, a Beaux-Arts architectural masterpiece that was built for the Paris World Fair at the turn of the century. Brings back so many great memories of my trip there years ago!
Needless to say, I couldn’t say no to NARS Grand Palais.
Price: $72 AUD (AU RPP) $33 USD (US RPP)
Availability: Mecca Cosmetica (Australia), NARS Counters worldwide
The left side of the NARS Grand Palais Eyeshadow Duo is a silvery taupe with soft shimmer. Although most reviewers have said that this is very pigmented I actually find that on my skin it’s actually on the sheer side (which is why I like to use this shadow wet).
The right side is a moderately pigmented matte deep rose with a hint of terracotta. Both very unique, but also very flattering shades.
The silvery taupe is buttery smooth and has an amazing silky appearance on the lid. The matte dusty rose is slightly powdery and takes a little more effort to blend compared with the left side (on par with the original MAC matte eyeshadows, and not as buttery as Inglot mattes).
Both shadows last well on the eyes on top of my UDPP and showed very little creasing and fading.
I haven’t tried this yet, but you could probably use the matte rose shadow as a blusher.

When I went on the Sleek website to finally pick up the famous Storm palette, I saw the prices of their palettes and did a double take. How can it be that the entire palette is HALF the price of MAC eyeshadow in Australia?
So of course I had to pick up two more Sleek palettes than originally intended- so I got Storm (reviewed here), Oh So Special, and Sunset palettes and was on my merry way.
Oh So Special palette includes 5 shimmery and 7 matte shades with a good range of colours that can take you from pretty in pink to sultry temptress.
The ‘pretty in pink’ colours are mostly on the left side of the palette. The shadows are reasonably smooth, but the shadows here are on the sheerer side and will require at least 2 layers on the eye to show up well.
